Obviously we have some great players like Perkins, Baskerville, Wingo, Ojulari, Converse who stick out in my mind but what would you say makes us pretty special on that side of that ball? Seems like all of our units are “good” but as a whole they play really well sans Tennessee game.

The line… The pressure our front line put on Bryce made our secondary look really good! Pressure always does. BK has always been about the trenches and he is rebuilding our trenches in a major way.

That Perkins not only can take away a dual threat QB’s running threat he turns into a sack maniac from the QB spy position. Normally you just neutralize the QB scramble with a spy not get constant pressure and sacks from it which allows you to keep 6 or 7 in coverage.

They contained BY (with Perkins) but I'm not gonna say we pressured him much. Bama's only successful pass plays were slants over middle.

I'd say scheme & DB's

Discipline. These guys play their roles well and are bought in.
Most big plays in football happen because someone on defense abandoned their role (contain, jumping a gap, leverage, eyes).

Truly disciplined teams make offenses work for every inch. Mix a BK culture with a Matt House defense and our athletes and you get one of my favorite defenses to ever watch.

The drive or hustle. Whatever you want to call it has been the biggest strength this year. Nobody is quitting and giving up. They are giving 110% every play. Even when they are out of position or get beat they stay in the fight like burns did to save that TD.

Conditioning seems to stand out at the ends of games a bunch. Not only the defense, but in some of these tight games, it certainly shows.

Honestly, the unity of the defense. Over the past few years we have had so much pettiness and drama on the defensive side of the ball, and its felt like they were playing for themselves and not each other. We have a group of guys that are all close friends, truly care about the program and one another that they are willing to go out and do whatever it takes. It’s like we are actually playing as a team.

Seems like we do everything well. The only thing I can point to that we could improve on is the big plays and penalties. When we play our game, we can do it all.. get after the QB, defend the pass game, stuff the run, tackle in space. This unit is t the best we’ve seen but Matt house has them playing some great football especially when it matters most.

I was trying to think what it was because what I see is a solid defense with any glaring holes. I think it is discipline, as you stated. And probably scheming to minimize exposure of the weakest parts and give our best players opportunities to negatively affect the other team's offense.

Discipline. Good call

our strength is that we have no weaknesses.

But really our strength is our pass rush. We have multiple very talented pass rushers and a mad scientist that know how to deploy them.

To me, besides the coaching staff, which I think deserve unlimited credit.

It has to be a lot of these dudes just want it so badly. Think about it. LSU was so down 2 years in a row. But you somehow retain Gaye, Oujilari, Ward, Baskerville, Roy, Penn, Burns. Then you get dudes in with the last bit of eligibility to transfer Foucha, Richardson, JBC, Garner, Brooks and even bring in Wingo. Then of course swinging Perkins and getting Tolan as well.

These dudes want to be at LSU and it is evident. They are fully committed to playing their tails off for CBK and House every single snap.

I believe that is what has been able to keep this defense so strong 4 quarters every game.
