I will enjoy the talent Jones has brought into program and not get caught up in anything else.
Outside of Swift and Temple's recruits, Brady Ball and Trent created a morgue like atmosphere in the PMAC. Fact of the matter is Coack K or Calipari is not rolling into LSU to coach ever, so enjoy the ride with one year of Ben Simmons and whatever that brings.

They went on probation and faced draconian sanctions. Also, LSU basketball facilities and pay for coaches was about middle of division 1.

He had a couple of great teams in the early/mid 80;s but never could get over the hump. He was not that good of a coach. I believe that Bobby Knight once said that he thought they were in trouble in a game against LSU, then he looked over and saw Dale and knew he'd win. Paraphrased. I no longe remember the exact words.

Then he go us on probation for the Lester Earl thing.

In a ten year span Brady won 2 SEC titles and 4 SEC West titles, had a Sweet 16 team and Final Four team. The program was not stable enough to overcome the effects of NCAA probation and the loss of Swift, Bass, and Thomas to early NBA entrance.

Swift and Thomas were not mature enough and should have stayed for another year. Had Bass stayed they may have won it all in 2006, but then maybe Thomas does not blow up like he did.

Only Kentucky and Florida accomplished more in the SEC during his tenure, but Brady never got the respect he deserved. He never worked on polishing his image and that hurt him.

The end of the Dale Brown era would have looked a lot different if Randy Livingston had not blown out his knee and Lester Earl had not succumbed to Roy Williams sweet talk at Kansas.

Dale should've been canned five years before when he actually left. He ruined the program. There were NCAA sanctions but the wheels were coming off as well. He hung around too long.

One of the SEC titles was split four ways with three other teams from the tougher Eastern division who played stronger schedules. Nevertheless, two SEC titles are still a good accomplishment. Divisional titles are meaningless in basketball.

Yes, those were those same two SEC championship teams.

Probation excused what happened after the 2000 SEC title, but not what happened after 2006.

If you are counting only the number of titles and final fours, etc., this is true. However, there's more to the picture than that. Brady oversaw some of the worst seasons in LSU basketball history. Some, not just one. We'd have one or maybe two good seasons, then two or three years of complete garbage. The program was extremely inconsistent.

Randy Livingston probably would have been a legend for us if he hadn't gotten hurt. Earl would have been the same crappy and worthless player for us that he was for Kansas, but at least might not have gotten us put on probation. So, maybe it wouldn't have been as bad as it was, but Dale had pretty much put the program on auto-pilot and had lost his drive. He admitted as much during the NCAA investigations and hearings. He was never going to bring LSU back into national relevance.

To me, Brady's biggest problem was that even after the sanctions ended we always had major depth problems. He'd bring in a few good players and nothing else. Then he'd inevitably run off a couple of player and we'd be back down to 8 scholarship players. I think Brady just wasn't well liked by anyone off the court. Dale, for all his short comings as a coach, is an exceptional man who players seem to love. Shaq still treats Dale like his father.
