I find it hard to believe that Miles told him that he wouldnt play if he stays on the team. Each yr most HC's do an interview with each player that normally lasts 15-20 minutes where they talk about his development and what he needs to work on moving forward. When they talk about next yr's playing time
they are normally very optimistic with all the kids. Coaches dont give up on kids that are giving effort, its not in their DNA. I still believe Fobbs can be as good or better than Skylar Green in the slot. He seems scat back quick to me quicker and better route runner than Shepard in my opinion.

Ever heard the term "processing"? All (ok, certainly most) college coaches do it and, in my view, should to the extent they shoot straight with the kids and leave the option up to the player. However, some coaches, like reportedly Nick Saban, have turned it into an art form as to how to make room for the next "big time recruit" and pretty much tell the player to transfer. Others simply speak frankly, explain the player's realistic prospects for playing time and leave the choice up to the player whether to seek opportunities elsewhere or finish their time with the program. If the earlier statement is true, then it sounds like Miles falls into this category (as others have reported) and Fobbs has decided to finish at LSU regardless of the prospect of limited opportunities.

I know if I had no hope of getting playing time, I'd prefer the coach shoot straight with me.

Jarrett Fobbs was almost an Aggie. He was originally offered as a CB but he refused to entertain the notion that he would play on defense in college. He got a WR offer from TAMU and committed. The LSU staff switched his offer from CB to WR so he flipped to LSU not long before signing day. If he would've listened to the staff instead of being stubborn, he probably would have been on the field a ton or possibly have started last season instead of Chavis relying on 2 freshmen to carry the load.
