I missed the last two innings and see a lot of people complaining about a call. Was it just the double play call that ended the game that people are mad about?

Johnny called for a squeeze bunt with the runner on second

The double play was a bad call, but most people are mad about how the bullpen performed, or how the bullpen was managed. Pulling the right strings in the bullpen isn't Paul's strong suit, but he has to get a pass last night. You have to find out what you have in the pen, and those guys need innings.

CPM gets a "pass" in the 4th game of the season? Good Lord. Guess Coach Dunn gets one, too, as he & CPM are the two responsible for all the pitching decisions? I rather these pitchers mess up now, learn from their mistakes, the coaches learn bout them as well, then a mth from now in the middle of a SEC league series.

That's basically the same thing I said.
The bullpen needs innings.
Coaches need to see who can do what.

Skip was notorious for this. He wanted to find out in February what he had as far as a pitching staff during these tune-up games. Zero fricks were given if the games were won or lost. Granted, it is a different landscape these days with RPI and such and mid-week losses make a difference more now than they used to, but I bet Skip would still play it the same way. Put your guys out there...see what they can do...and adjust accordingly in March and April.

Now last night, Skip may have used one of his more infamous lines a few times last night if he were making the pitching changes. He once went to the mound in a game back and the 90's to go get a pitcher who was getting shelled (pitcher's name withheld to protect the victim) and told him (and imagine this in Skip voice) "Son....I am trying to win a championship here, and you aren't helping"

The last out in the 9th wasn't even close, runner was past the bag by the time the ball got there. First base coach Ochinko got thrown out of the game by the ump, even though the game was over. To be honest though, I saw several other extremely questionable bang-bang calls that were made as well. Breaux got caught stealing second, but seemed safe looking at the replay. The home plate umpire was all over the place calling balls and strikes too. I think Strall got the worst bit of calls, but at least he was inconsistent calling for both teams.

I'm more concerned about our outfielders diving and missing badly on some bloop singles. Both Duplantis and Diechman caused errors that led to more runs in the 5th. Just glad we get this game out of our system now before it happens in a more meaningful game in league play.

You can Blame it on the pitching staff. I think wasn't exactly blown away by the defense in the last half of the game. Lots of poorly played balls. Plenty blame to share.
Hopefully it was a great slap of reality.

Will never say....but he turned out to be a very serviceable relief pitcher for LSU

The defense knew the pitch dive was coming and stopped us short of the goal line again

Pulling the right strings in the bullpen

I love our clowns who think they know better what right strings to pull than the LSU staff knows.

The LSU staff has won over a thousand games, many won in the strongest college baseball conference around, SEC titles, SEC tourney titles, many CWS trips, and a NC, but our fans know better what moves to make.

Put down the pipe!

The LSU staff as a whole, as currently constituted, has won 3 games.

Which is way more college games than most of the know-it-all's have.

in the end game, the offense didn't get it done. the last two innings we had lots of guys on base (even loaded 'em in the eigth) and we didn't get the timely hitting. if course, they shouldn't have been in that position but the relief pitching was atrocious.

it happens. BUT, by far my biggest bitch was not pinch hitting crooms in the ninth. it was one out with the tieing run at the plate (crooms). he is a catcher and is slow. naturally he hits into a double play to end the game. it looked like a bad call at first but damnit if there ever was a place to have a pinch hitter that was it.

There's a good reason Paul is the LSU Baseball coach and I'm not. I am not one of the people calling for him to be fired, I mostly like him. That said, wherever sports are played, there's a fan base that will criticize coaches and players. Doesn't mean all fans think they know better than the coaching staff.

The clown I was responding to was calling out the head LSU baseball coach for pulling the wrong strings with the bullpen. That coach has won over a thousand college baseball games and COY awards. So, acting as if our fans have a better grasp on what to pull and when to pull them is retarded.

Coaches make mistakes, but that doesn't mean that there is any swinging dick in the stands who can hold Paul's jock when it comes to pulling the right moves. To not realize that fact shows how out of touch with reality some are.
