We have been terrible all year at pass protection. I think we are going to have to keep backs and tight ends in to chip and help out. We also need to utilize the screen/short passing game to slow down their rush.

As bad as I HATE Bama...I got a feeling they are going to crush our O line.

The good news is that the coaches already know this going into the game, and they have 2 weeks to prepare.

we will need screens against bama blitz. we could use some 3 step drops.

canada does great stretching field horizontally in the run game. problem is we have no consistent vertical pass game so i expect bama not to load box(they still might though) as that only guarantees stops between tackles. i expect them to move people up all across the LOS to stop outside edge runs and of course inside runs. forcing us to go vertical to hang with them. Canada is severely handicapped with this QB,line and receivers. bama can keep 7 in box and have 4 guys on edges(2 on each side)all within 5 yards of the LOS. maybe 10 max. only way to get them off the LOS is going vertical and it has to be done consistently.

IMO
Quick developing, short, intermediate routes like slants, screens, and wheel routes. Throw on early downs. Use the pass to open up the running game.

Lots of prayer.

This is not the only issue, we've been stonewalled trying to run (with Fournette, no less) the past 2 years also. Base Bama defense is going to be a nightmare for us. They're going to get a ton of penetration.

Jet sweeps, quick screens, shovel passes- all already have been seen. I think we'll see a whole lot of that, just to counter their base. Can't imagine what else we will see once the blitzes come.

Last season, we were allowed to face a slow death because our defense kept us in it. Watching how Ole Miss ran, I don't think that will be the case. I think Bama's on the way to 50+, and we're going to have to score to keep up.

I'm not really sure there's a way to coach out of the problem but if there is it's going to involve a lot of very quick passes. If we can manage to complete some quick passes and keep them off balance with unpredictable runs that might be the ticket.

If we weren't terrified of the middle of the field between 5 and 10 yards off the line of scrimmage I would say passes there would be huge. But clearly we are terrified of those passes

Play without an offensive line?

To be honest, we have some guys that can do big damage on short passes near the line if the D is blitzing a lot or just rushing in fast. Guice and Williams are very good receivers out of the backfield, Chark and Dillon have game-breaking speed and Gage is a guy who has some great moves and can jump out of the place to avoid tacklers. We have to use every weapon we have. That helps the offensive line so they don't feel the crush of the Bama D every play.

Say it again, LSU must establish a passing game. Maybe rely on slant routes and quick passes, then maybe sneak in a long one (if they can get dem mammoth LB's to backoff a bit). Hey this is Bama, that pass rush will be brutal. But IMO Etling can't hesitate. Believe in his effort to prevent interceptions, he tends to hesitate a couple heartbeats too long in his reads especially in his long passes. Hey as a QB playing against a premier defense like Bama you're going to have to play with a healthy dose of reckless abandon. I mean LSU will have to put together some semblance of a passing game, otherwise the "Stacked Box" box will become a DL line of stacked railroad shipping containers.
