They made it a felony this year so I doubt it will happen as much. There will still be the people who light it and run though. Its only after really big games, maybe once every couple years you'll run across a couch fire...Bin Laden's death was one of the craziest times for it all

To keep warm. If only they had some sort of natural resource, such as coal...

i dont think anyone except for some old timers would know... I think it started back in the 60's or 70's.

scholars maintain that the true time frame for this tradition was lost decades ago.

I was I'm Lexington in 2007 when we lost. Kentucky fans were burning piles of couches in the street. It was crazy.

Well WVU isn't the only school that burns/bonfires stuff. I'd assume it started with a rivalry game way back when.

Duke does the same thing if they beat UNC in basketball. At the start of every year dorms/frats/living groups build (or repair if the previous years are still there) large wooden benches (10-12 seaters), and if they beat UNC they bring them out into the main quad and start a huge bonfire.

Now couches...seems more silly.

its not all couches, most of the stuff getting burned is just cheap/old furniture that sit out on students porches in the sunnyside area of morgantown.

Could it be that couches take up too much room in their houses.

It's a tradition started by the furniture industry.

We made national news this year for the osama night celebrations. A record 29 reported fires that night. We lead the country in intentional fires set in the last 15 years. Well over 1000. Can't remember the exact number

this has always bothered me. You are from Louisiana and we're from West Virginia. No one can really talk shite on the others when it comes to tooth loss.
