Yes, there were a few gaps at the beginning of the game but to say the uppers were "mostly empty" is not accurate at all.

I predicted an attendance of around 88K and that prediction looked accurate to me.

There was definitely a lull both outside the stadium and in - gaps throughout the stadium, most notably in the student section.
