Went to UNC vs. Syracuse Tonight...

LSU Alum that is now in Chapel Hill, NC. Got some free tickets, and in ACC land, I like UNC so what the heck. I was at LSU for the early 90's. The Chris/Shaq years and have seen the PMAC rocking during those times and some of the Brady years. Based on all that, some observations:
1. Granted this was an unranked Syracuse team, but fans came late, 2,000+ empty seats, and fans left early. These aren't LSU-specific problems. And at UNC this is their primary sport.
2. Sure the talent at UNC (and Syracuse) is better, but both teams were so well coached. They just played intelligent basketball.
3. I have seen the PMAC literally twice as loud as the loudest it was tonight. The only thing (it's a big one) UNC has over LSU is all the cloth hanging from the rafters. I thought of LSU often tonight and it made me miss the Dale Brown golden era.
I hope we get back there again.....

We need a coach with some personality. Someone whose enthusiasm will capture the fan base and make it easy to rally around him.
Trent and Johnny both seem to have the personalities of a doorknob.
If you can do that, then the guy just needs to be able to get players and coach a little bit, and we could have a good program pretty quickly.

UNC basketball has famously been described as a wine and cheese crowd and the Dean Dome is huge(21,000) so they always have empties.

Have said this for the longest, doesn't have to be a complete Used Car Salesman but someone with just a little enthusiasm and at least a little knowledge of basketball coaching. Winning cures everything but you need some excitement to get the lost fans back on board.

Personality is nice, but the next hire has to actually have a vision for the team on the court. He has to be sound as an X's and O's guy.

Allen fieldhouse in Lawrence is a great atmosphere

Went to the UNC vs Duke game in 2005. UNC had Felton, Williams, and May. Duke had Redick, Williams and McRoberts. This was the second most exciting sporting event I've ever been too. Only beat out by LSU 2003 Championship. I've never seen a more rowdy crowd. They never let up on Redick. It was pandemonium Baby!!

shitty Syracuse team + UNC fans + giant dean dome
I remember the maravich center rocking but let's not think that for big ACC games, which is almost every week now, that the energy in there isn't miles from what we have at LSU. I hope we get back to it as well.
