The quote from the booth. The bottom line is this ump rewards swinging teams. He's not going to let you sit back and take walks.

I will say he is bad but he's been bad for both teams so I can't say much. Just wish we had a competent ump

Hess will DOMINATE with this strike zone. No way anybody is hitting 96 4 inches off the plate.

Oregon St. was hoping to load up on walks like they did the other night. It's not happening with this ump if you can put it in a decent spot on the outside. They better start swinging or they're gonna be hoarse from bitching.

Consistently bad, How the hell did this guy get to be a CWS umpire.

Good. College pitchers should have more liberal strike zones or else you'll get a walk fest like we've seen every other game

Absolutely. Great point

This is payback for all those bullshite walks that lead to the Grand slam on monday. Could not get a strike to save our lives. That ump squeezed hard.

I like the result, but this sport has always had an inconsistent rules issue. Strike zones should only ever change in accordance with the body of the batter, not by the eyes of an ump. Until baseball has a consistent strike zone it is tainted.

This reminds me of little league/high school where you pretty much had to swing with 2 strikes no matter what.
Fine with me though, both teams should know the deal by now and adjust accordingly. Gotta protect with two strikes.

Exactly. That's why this type of ump calls a wide strike zone. To eliminate that kind of crap. He rewards more aggressive batting teams.

Could you do better????

OSU showed up hoping to win like they did in game one, via walks. Hence the pussy approach

I kind of disagree. I think ultimately the strike zone should remain in human hands. There's something about the judgment that just makes the game more dynamic. It causes pitchers and catchers and batters to have to change their strategies in game. If it was computer monitored the game would become too stale.
That said, baseball is a miserable sport to watch when the umpire has a small strike zone.

It's officially not consistent.
