Also, question about recruiting, has there ever been a coach that within a month of arriving at his new school turned out a top ten recruiting class for a school that hasn't had one in years?

quote:

Anthony Hickey - Fastest guy on the court most days. Has the ability to change a game with his quickness by forcing turnovers and finding the open man in the paint. He has become one of the better PG's LSU has had in recent memory for one reason, he plays hard. He plays harder than I have seen anyone else play under TJ in the past few years. He invigorates the offense and adds a spark that we have been missing.

He isn't much of a shooter at all but he brings so much more to table. He's a good enough distributor and great at protecting the ball. His defense is really good (although it has slacked a little later in season) and is an expert at steals. Even though he is a poor shooter, he gives you some games where it seems like he cant miss...and it always seems to be when we really need it. Clutch player. A very good player. I expect him to be All-SEC 2nd team this year.

quote:

Andre Stringer - Sophomore slump. Has to be the reason he hasn't truly opened up the floor with his sick range. If Hickey can jack up a shot from the timeline, Stringer can. JJ didn't pull the reigns on him just yet so don't think he is being coached to stop shooting. He has range and it can be lethal at times. His speed compliments Hickey and makes them a pretty dangerous 1-2 punch.

Stringer is a junior this year and has improved a lot as a player. He had a rough go at it today but is shooting 40% from 3 this year which is a MASSIVE upgrade from his first 2 years as he was shooting around 30%. He isn't taking as many super deep threes now which is what is really helping him and it's showing up in the percentages. He's taking open 3 point shots instead, not a guy in his face so back up and take a 3pt shot 5 feet behind the arc anymore. Bottom line is the further away you shoot, the less you will make. Stringer will always be a defensive liability because of his small size, but he does play intensively at least. Solid role player for us going forward.

quote:

Charles Carmouche - This is why I watch NCAA basketball. This kid played at UNO, transferred to Memphis, and ended up in Baton Rouge to play ball but also to get a Master's degree in HR Mgmt. He will be missed next season with all the newbies coming in.

He has absolutely gotten into a groove recently. He was a good all around player earlier in the year, but not someone you desperately would miss. He could do a lot but not excel at any 1 thing. Now he's a dangerous offensive player every game. I wish this guy had 1 more year, because if he played like he has recently next season with the team we have coming back, holy cow, we'd be a Top 10 team. No doubt in my mind. He may not make All-SEC, but he's played like it very recently.

quote:

Johnny O'Bryant III - This kid is a beast. If he was three inches taller, he would be in the running for NPOY. If you don't agree, go watch tape. He is a barreling 6'9" PF that can dominate in the paint. He can take over a game with his strength and inside game (remember the USCe game?) He will be playing in the NBA within the next few years, I guarantee it. He is a better version of Brandon Bass.

The progress JOB III has made from early season to mid-late SEC play has been nothing short of incredible to watch. He was a good player, but now he's a great player. Imagine if he was playing those weak OOC teams now and AU for a 2nd time around! Look what improvement he had from the first USCe game to the second. Fantastic player, All-SEC 1st team for sure. I think he'll be back for 1 more year to really take the CBB world by storm.

quote:

Andrew Del Piero - He is tall and has long arms.

Pretty good summary, actually. No basketball skill, but his improvement from last year to this year is really awesome. A guy anyone can root for considering he's playing because he worked hard enough to beat out some scholarship players for the spot.

quote:

Shane Hammink and Corban Collins - They will be a bigger part of the offense next season and should both average 6-8 ppg.

Hammink I see as a guy who develops and has a bright future as a role player. Collins I see as a guy that gets processed or sees like 5 minutes a game next year in blowouts. Just dont see anything Collins brings to the table honestly.

quote:

Jalen Courtney - I feel that without JOB around, he would be the starting PF and prob make a few big plays every now and then.

He tries really hard supposedly in practice, and he does run up and down the court...but he has little basketball skill and plays much shorter/smaller than he actually is. I think he is bit better than Collins as a basketball player, and should be back for his senior season since he does work his butt off in practice, but I think he sees a similar 5 minute/game in blowouts though.

quote:

Malik Morgan - Shows signs of awesome but leaves us wanting him to take over the game sometimes. If he had the same confidence he had in HS with his scoring, he will be a 18ppg type guy.

Morgan is the guy I think makes the biggest improvement jump from this year to next in all honesty. He HAS the talent, he HAS the size, but he's just young and making the college adjustment. He hasn't shot all that well from 3, which I think he can definitely improve on. He has his airball or way off shots at times so I dont think he's a pure shooter but a guy who could still shoot 35ish % from 3. He brings the ability to cut to rim and make a play though, which is a big asset for a 2-guard. Stringer can't do this at all. I think if Morgan improves a good deal, he's our starting 2 next year and we can bring Stringer off the bench since Stringer can be a big liability on defensive with his size. I think Morgan is a role player next year still, maybe even his junior year, but by either his junior or senior year, will be one of our best players.

quote:

Jarrell Martin - Dude is a freak. He is 6'7" barefoot and tops out around 6'9" in shoes. He can dunk, block, run, and rebound. If he can improve his outside shooting, this guy could help bring this team to another Final Four. Maybe not next year but he should bring us enough help to get us to 24 wins next season. It might sound crazy but with his size and mid-range game, he will be a beast on JJ's team.

Couldn't say it better myself, the kid doesn't have a lot to work on, he is a great player and an asset at the 3 or 4. He is an immediate starter for next year and will be a terror on opposing teams. I think he can make All-SEC as a freshman...and MAY be a 1 and done.

quote:

Darcy Malone - A TRUE 7' Center. He was never in a band or ever picked up a tuba. He has a jump shot too.

Dare I say he's an athletic 7 footer with size to boot. I think with a redshirt he can really use going from youth Aussie ball to NCAA DIV I ball he can develop into a good player down the road. If no redshirt, a role player for a year or two then better down the road.

quote:

Tim Quarterman - This guy seems to have been lost in the shuffle. He is one of the tallest high school PG's in the country right now at 6'5". He is a PG even though some places list him as a SF.

I dont think he'll ever be a big time scorer here but he will be a super athletic 1 who can guard 1-3's on other teams similar to Garrett Temple (but better offensively). I'd say his defense will be his biggest asset like Temple's was butI also think he'll take care of the basketball and do a good job distributing down the line. I think he'll be a big time role player this year and next behind Hickey and finally take over his junior year at PG.

You forgot about Mickey and Odo who will be huge for us brah! Mickey will be a big time role player and Odo a starter who will rebound and block shots.

All in all this is my breakdown of the players for next year...

JOB III - All-American/1st team All-SEC/star on team
Hickey - 1st team All-SEC/star on team
Martin - 2nd team All-SEC/star on team
Odo - Support player + solid contributor
Morgan - Support player + solid contributor
Coleman - Support player + solid contributor
Stringer - Role player + solid contributor
Mickey - Role player + solid contributor
Quarterman - Role player + solid contributor
Hammink - Role player
Malone - Redshirt or possible Role player
Courtney - Bench warmer
Collins - Bench warmer

This, Bass as a freshman was as good as JOB III is now as a sophomore. Bass a sophomore is a level above what JOB III is. He had a jump shot and JOB III still is pretty lacking there. I do think as a junior JOB III could be as good as Bass if he takes that next step hitting jumpers more consistently. I think he has arrived as far as Bass was here in rebounding.

Odo is gonna put this team over the top. His athletic play, rebounding, and shot blocking skills is gonna help JOB tremendously. However Morgan will never average 18ppg, but he can average 12-14. Martin is a high energy guy that can play both ways.

Hickey
Morgan
Martin
JOB
Odo
-------
Coleman-6th Man
Stinger- major role player
Quarterman-large role player
Mickey-large role player
Malone- small role player
Hammnik-medium role player
Courtney-end of bench player
Collins-end of bench player

I feel the same. Classic 4-year program guy who is a role player his first 2 maybe even 3 years then becomes a leader as an experienced player and makes good decisions and scores when the team needs him...but not a guy who takes over a game.

While I agree that JOBIII has made tremendous improvement and been a huge part of the teams success this year, this statement is utterly comical.

It feels really good to look at the lineup and actually see a full roster. It seems like it has been for ever since the Tigers have had a full roster and one that was very balanced.

I know that it's obvious JOB would be a POY candidate if he wAs 7 foot tall. My point was simply that he is good enough to make a name for himself if hs stays one more year and plays with Martin

Does Mickey remind anyone of Lester Earl as a basketball talent? That who he reminds me of in that highlight video.

He shoots nearly 40% from the field and is in the top 10 in SEC 3pt.%. No, he's not Chris Jackson, but he's far from a "poor" shooter for a guard who takes most of his shots from 10ft and out. Hickey brings a lot to the table, but his best attribute is that he's not afraid to step up and be the man in big spots. LSU started slow yesterday until Hickey decided to take matters into his own hands. No way LSU beats Mizzou in game 1 if he doesn't take over in the 2nd half, going toe-to-toe with Pressy. He wanted the ball in his hands against Miss. St., and delivered twice. 9/10 times, when LSU needs a spark, he's it.

I appreciate the effort, but is the reason why you watch NCAA basketball really because of Carmouche??? If so, I know why you can't wait until year.
