After Bill Arnsparger's successful run we transitioned into Mike Archer. Shoulda, coulda, woulda'd on Steve Spurrier. It's common knowledge that Spurrier wanted the LSU job. We s#%t on Spurrier and got the curse that we deserved by the football Gods. The darkness that was LSU football took a toll on all our lives. It actually took well over a decade from us. Quite a price to pay! Once again we are transitioning into another coaching change that could mean conitnued success or a rapid decline.
Im on board the CEO train. People point to his failure but there are many a great football coach that have failed at the first stop to only come back and run sh#t! (Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll the most recent.) I think we are scared of missing out on the next big thing that we are overlooking what CEO bring to the table. I don't think they hold a candle to CEO. If recruiting kept CLM a job...then we are ok! I'd rather die with a guy that can recruit his arse off than any of the other guys. We all thought those coaches from the Saban tree were going to be the next big thing too!

Wait you use this anecdote to support taking a chance on Orgeron? Not the best at analogy application I see.

Well, that went clear over your head. I used it to show why I think people are afraid to hire Oregon. The anecdote to support his hiring was the coachs that have failed before and are now succesful. Not the best at reading comprehension I see!

He's saying hire a known recruiter. Not a guy who you think will be a great technical coach but winds up not being able to recruit, this putting the program back a decade.

Take a chance on a recruiter that may have improved as a head coach vs a hot name that may not be able to recruit.

Success or fail, if you have players the next guy, if needed, has players to win with.

Larry Coker, mike archer, are coaches that killed programs. Coaches like ogeron, hoke, zook, didn't succeed but didn't kill the program either.

Archer failed because he couldn't wouldn't recruit. This is not a good analogy at all.

ETA Ok re-read it sorry =)

We also passed on Mike Shanahan for Archer. It was a horrible decision.

Your analogy is very poor, the situations were totally different.
