saban visited many recruits by 'accident' - hence the new rule named for the prick.

Yes, although I think it was his dad making the comments more so than Phelon..But not sure.

No, but this was a visit where Saban went and visited him and gave off his strong "i'm the best secondary coach and i've done all of this and i'm so great" type of recruiting of PHelon and phelon said he was very put off by it afterwards.

It may have been Patrick Peterson... not sure though.

No your right it was Phelon and Saban. When Saban was first hired he went to Phelon's high school, against Phelon's wishes, to talk to him. Phelon said that Saban started off by talking about how great of a coach he is and how he won't find anyone who can develop him better than him and how HE was the reason LSU won a National Championship. He said all kinds of other crazy BS and Phelon Jones called him out on it and pretty much walked out on Nick. He was one of my favorite recruits at the time because of it and it kills me that he goes back and sells his soul to the devil.

Saban had him at "hello". He always wanted to come to Bama..he was just scared at the possibility of revenge attacks from the Tigah faithful...

The story is better than that. nick went to his high school after he committed to Les. When they walked out of a classroom, Bo Pelini and his staff were standing there, arms folded waiting. They couldn't talk, but flew there in a helicopter to make Phelon's value known.

Saban tries to sway Phelon Jones, gets denied (Jan20)

The Huntsville Times writes that Alabama head coach Nick Saban visited Phelon Jones at McGill-Toolen last Tuesday and "put a big move" on him trying to get the ESPN 150 prospect to reconsider his commitment to LSU, but was unsuccessful.

Jones' father Tony revealed Saban's recruiting strategy with his son saying, "Saban's sales pitch is, 'Look I'm the head coach and I also coach the secondary. Where are you going to find that in America? I coach it for a reason, because I'm the best there is at it. I turned the program around at Michigan State and LSU and I have more to work with at Alabama.'"

Tony continued, "We enjoyed talking with him. He's a great guy, but he's a little overconfident."

Jones was previously committed to Miami-FL before switching to LSU after a visit to Baton Rouge last month.

Yeah, but something tells me that he'll be able to cope.

Well, really , can't diss on Nicky. His fear year was horrible and that made Phelon choice seem right. Then his second year, well undefeated until Florida and that bowl game.

Not bad. Give credit where credit is due, if we had good D-coaches, we might have use ALL our DB's.
