Vanderbilt was a signature win

Last LSU team to win their conference opener on the road was the 2006 final 4 team. They went 8-5 in out OOC. I think our boys are picking it up at the right time. :)

Ehhhhh we'll see about that

yea, the similar OOC records of the '06 team and this team have been discussed, but the OOC schedule was much tougher in '06.
i like where your head's at though. Feel like we may be ready to roll.

I would love for you to be right Namari. I'm not sure how good Vandy really is but I do think they are probably better than any of the teams we've lost to, so it was a good win.
I just need to see some consistency as Johnny's previous teams we've seen flashes like this where we think we've figured it out only to lapse into some of the same recurring issues shortly thereafter.
If we could keep up the intensity and effort and continue to show the strides in playing smarter I saw yesterday, things could get good.
Let's see.
Now the 2006 Final Four team you speak of lost close games on the road to top 10 teams like UCONN and Ohio St. and in a tourney in Vegas to a tourney team in Cincinatti, so the were a bit more battle tested and ready.
But I'd love to see another run like that.

We need one more piece and i swear its Epps. He has the potential to be Tyrus Thomas with a jumpshot. He can jump out the fricking gym. He needs the attitude that Tyrus had. Just play angry and hustle your arse off .

the difference though is the final four team had a hell of an ooc schedule. they scheduled the best and even though they lost played them well. This years ooc schedule was garbage and we still lost a lot. Though last night was really promising. If that play continues we will be in great shape.

This. Every team under Johnny improves on a weakness for a game or two but then they revert back. The thing that i am hoping is different about this team is i hope Ben Simmons just decides to score first. He needs to get every post player he faces in foul trouble while dropping 40.

So many signature losses though

I feel like Epps gets intimidated by bigger players. He kills it against smaller schools and smaller teams but then when he has to bang he gets a little overwhelmed. Of course it is just his first year truly playing in the post.

I wouldnt call a win over a team that isn't going to the NCAAT a signature win

Vandy is an average team at best without Kornet. That said, I definitely saw improvement and lots of effort last night. Every road win is big....

Win on Tuesday and we are right back where we need to be. Until then, let's just be happy with the improvement and hope that they show that kind of effort again.

I disagree.
Losses to Nc state, marquette and wake forest are no big deal. No way will the selection committee consider these bad losses.
Houston looked like a bad loss but it may not be so bad after all.
Charleston is the one that's horrible. We need to win some games we aren't supposed to win to make up for that one. Wiining at vandy is a good start.

Agreed, but Stallings had them destined for underachieving even with him. If he's not gone at the end of the season I'll be shocked.
I meant no disrespect to LSU but this won't be much of a resume builder because I really don't think Vandy makes the tournament at this rate. Now a win against UK would go a long long way, I'll be cheering for the Tigers.

I do like Epps's upside. But they seem to have trouble finding a role for him. Who do you put him in for?
When Victor got in foul trouble, they went with Elbert and Malone first I'm guessing because they did not think Epps could defend Jones in the post against the bigger body guys.
Or do you sub him in for one of the 3's? That may be a bad matchup for him defensively too against a smaller, quicker guy.
I guess it's whether you are willing to trade off defensively with what he can bring offensively, and depends on the opponent and their personnel.

We need to beat KY then hang our hat on that win. You know as well as I that we are fully capable of shiteing the bed at any time.

I think it's been our M.O. under Johnny IMHO, just when you think we've turned the corner, soiled sheets.
Until proven otherwise, there's always that fear.

Great win but we're going to hear how we were able to win it because Vanderbilt was without their best player
