He was pitching upper 80s today and his slurve was getting it done. Went 7 full innings today and looks like a major competitor for the Sunday staring job.

If Poche is good and Lange doesn't fall in a sophomore slump we will be fine heading into SEC play.

I'm liking the twins in the 4 and 5 hole, as well.

We have good pitching.

Like we thought we would. Although I'll be honest Valek wasn't on my radar.

Lange
Poche
Valek

Gilbert hasn't impressed me yet.

I really like him following Lange if the rotation stays in this order. Right handed power pitcher then the other team has to adjust to a left hander with good offspeed stuff the next day.

Yeah, if Valek is part of the rotation going forward, nothing wrong with keeping Poche on Fridays.

Stallings heathy is better than Gilbert. People can't just tune in to his fastball anymore since he's tossing in some off speed

I was sitting out on the first base line and saw him warming up. I was suprised a smaller guy like him was throwing that hard.

Kid looks good; and I hope he does so well; we never have to here the "no Sunday starter" excuse all year.

Though we have been using the "young" excuse since last September.

There are realities and then there are excuses. Inexperience is a reality. No set 3rd starter the last two years is a reality.

That being said, the lack of third starter isn't what ended our season either year.

Valek looks good. I've give him the Sunday nod for now.

I hope Lange just had an off day yesterday. He wasn't his usual commanding self.

Still think we need to move Lange to Friday nights

Why we can lock up a series on Saturday?

I think this rotation is fine for now and even going into SEC play. I think it will need to be reevaluated after the second or third week of SEC play if we are worse than 0.500. A change could be necessary.

Same could be said if Poche is there. He should be better than almost every SEC #2 we face.

I think it will come down to how deep Poche can go in games. If he can't go beyond 5 or 6 innings, our bullpen will be asked to do a lot on a Friday night, putting the rest of the weekend in question. If you use Stallings (if he's our closer) Friday, you don't have him for after Lange. Who do you use to close that out?

Bugg?

ETA I think he was on a short leash today because of the seven people he hit in one inning in Beaumont; but he made quick work of what was
Given today.

Maybe.

But there's my point. It could make bullpen decisions more difficult for PM... And most people already have a pretty strong opinion of his abilities there.

Lange looked a lot more like his normal self in the 5th. He was pulled because of his pitch count after that, but I'm not worried about him long term.

Valek solidified his Sunday spot today, especially considering that his competition hasn't impressed so far. Hopefully Bain and Smith can step up to the challenge.

The bullpen will be fine I'm more interested in how Bain pitches Wednesday and if Smith can work his way out of this rut.

I am good with Poche, Lange, Valek. I would like to see more of Gilbert and Stallings to see how that plays out. Stallings with a dependable off speed pitch is tough.
