Nice. So, we'll only really owe him around $11MM.

Interesting article. To sum up, since the OP failed to do so:

1) LSU will owe Miles $11M, not $15M, as the buyout amount is reduced by how much he has received this year.
2) The payments will be spread about over the course of 8 years.
3) Miles must make a "good faith effort" to find suitable employment over the life of the payout.

I read that as saying the buyout could be as little as $2M, if Miles does nothing whatsoever professionally next year, and finds a job the following. If he never seeks employment, I suppose that LSU could invoke that clause to not pay him the buyout.

So COULD be $11 over 8 years or $1,375,000 per year IF he seeks new "related" job then we reduce the new salary from the $1,375,000? If he gets another coaching job, we may pay nothing? Sweet.

He gone.

Did George Bass get "outlawyered" by a bunch of Coonass lawyers? Love it.

So what happens if Les does not seek out employment? Can we stop paying him?

After all the blunders he has had at LSU, he wont get a job anywhere close to the pay grade he has now.

Yes. Nobody on earth would pay money for a 2-time SEC champ with a national title and 110 wins in 11 yrs.

That would just be silly.

The only people on earth that think Miles is a bad coach are LSU fans.

He's 62. If he elected to choose retirement, then he gets nothing from the remaining years on his contract?

Or put another way, he doesn't get a penny from the $15 mil?

I don't think he is or was a bad coach. But has the game gotten away from him absolutely! Wish him well

Considering his age and how he might just want to retire, there would most likely be a compromise. I doubt that LSU would just not pay him. Probably reduce the payment big time. He would still get paid, but no where near as much as the 11 million

The article also says the contract says nothing about how much he has to make at any job he takes.

Heck, he could take a job somewhere and enter into a contract making minimum wage. That'll help reduce the buyout fine.

I wonder if he could do something like coach Pop Warner or Jr. High football for a few thousand a year?

Or whether he could apply to be head coach at Bama this year, New England next year, Ohio State the following year, etc.?

The last two years Miles has not been a good coach. As of late he has been a really bad coach.

Well according to some here, Arkansas offered Miles $5.25 mil a year to coach there. He then turned around and took a deal from LSU for less money.

You know, because Miles played LSU for more money. Had nothing to do with him going 13-1.

You don't know what a really bad coach looks like because LSU hasn't had one in 20 years.

And If Les is a really bad coach, then there are very few good coaches out there. So the chances of LSU landing a good coach is slim to none.
