Umpiring for the game

How many think the umps get together after a game to discuss the officiating in the game. I could just imagine them sitting at a table in a bar.

Umpire one: "You think that ball was out the park."
Umpire two: "Yeah it was probably out the park but my pregame drink were affecting my vision so I just called it a ground rule double."

or

Umpire one: "You think Katz was safe at third?"
Umpire two: "Nah ... He looked out to me."

Calls have been inconsistent all Regional. I hope these guys are not coming back for the Supers.

yea, they blatantly missed bregman's homer. CPM needs to find that ground crew and chew some arse. however, the call at third was close and bam bam. i think he was safe, even after watching the replay but it was a judgement call that noone can be 100% sure of. as far as the strike zone, it sucked but the plate ump was enforcing it evenly on both sides. it is quite possible that the size of the strike zone is influenced by "the powers that be". in other words, some ncaa or head of officials decide to have a small zone so lots of runs will be scored. sadly, many, many, many baseball "fans" are casual fans and have no idea how to appreciate the many nuances of the game. they want runs and more runs. at a time where college baseball's popularity is rising, MORE RUNS ARE GOOD FOR BUSINESS. it's bull shite but that's reality.

Was there any truth to the claim that the umps were out drinking the night before?

Or was that just Rant being Rant.

Umpires don't get talking points or marching orders from their conference or the NCAA.

And yes, the umpire last nite was brutally consistent. However, any a-hole behind the plate with that tight a strike zone completely ruins the games for everyone involved. He took what could have been an incredible contest, and strictly for his ego, turned it into an unbearable circus so that he could be the focal point and have his finger print on the game.

CPM can call the NCAA and request his arse never steps foot on campus again.

So what if they were. They are not allowed to go have a drink after work? I don't think they have been great but who cares if they were out the night before?

These guys are from all around and usually 5 man crews. Chances are a couple have worked with each other only once or twice. You always have one guy who thinks he's the show, another trying to be the show, a new guy on his first regional and a guy on his way out. Many or most never played and understand higher level baseball and the dynamics. CPM does not have any say on who he gets.
