Tyson Jackson: "I already know how we're gonna play" ....

In this post game pc, Miles said the team had a meeting where they aired out their differences and lots of members of the team spoke. He relayed that towards the end of the meeting Tyson stood up and made the comment to the team/coaches that "I already know how we're going to play".
I thought that was cool, sometimes you need to air out grievances to come closer, whether it's a football team or a family or a relationship.

Riley also said the game seemed a lot slower than practice lol...maybe we should put John Williams at QB and run a little option heh.

Sounds to me like the coaches did a hell of a job in practice of preparing the team

Man, Paul Johnson is an arrogant chap isn't he?

Refused to admit we "understood" the option offense...make a snide remark about us "still trying to score" in 3rd quarter.

I think we understood the option perfectly this game. This LSU defense was the one I expected all year from LSU. They held arguably the best rusher in the ACC to low yardage, and once GT had to start passing to get back in the game that was a wrap.
And I will agree the fake punt was a bit much, but LSU throwing deep was fine in my book. GT came back from like 20 down to beat Georgia, so I was fine trying to put a few more points.

I'm the opposite on the fake punt/passing deep. I think the fake punt was fine and a perfectly executed play. Why punt it away and put the ball in their hands with 8 minutes to go when you can get the first and continue to run the clock yourself?
I do not agree with throwing it on 5 of 6 of the next plays after the fake punt. In my opinion, it makes the fake punt look like more of a dick move, whereas running the clock would have made it seem that was the reason.
We understood the option in the way of noticing "hey, if we just shove the shite out of everyone and push them 3 yards back, we disrupt this offense. Let's just do that every time!" Worked well!
As for the press conference, I don't think Johnson was saying LSU didn't understand the spread. It seemed to me he was laughing at the question because he felt there was much more that went on the in the game that was not affected at all by the LSU defense understanding the offense.
His repeated "what goes around comes around" makes it obvious he didn't like the fake punt, though he did say it was a nice play

That option is his baby, he got defensive about it for sure imo. Saying we were successful not because we "understood" it, but simply they effed it up. It reminded me of Stoops in the 04 NC game when the reporter asked him about LSU's #1 D...and he looked like a tool by repeating, no THEY had the #1 D. That was his baby too, and he got defensive about it.

Miles said they threw the ball simply because they put an extra defender or two in the box on those snaps. If they put more in the box, we must make them cover in the field...regardless of the score or time.

"Clearly they were bigger and faster than us."
No shite?
At least he's an honest man. BTW, he did get snarky when asked if we understood the option. He kinda made it sound as if we were just bigger and faster. Like we bludgeoned them to death instead of out played them.
Whatever. He wasn't insulting. Not a bad press conference.

I have absolutely no problem with what he said. Seemed classy to me. Made the point clear that the better team won the game.

I'm thinking that there was no intention of running up the score but rather with the lead we had there is no better time than to try out the trick plays and/or fakes just to see how we execute them. If they fail, no harm. If they succeed then teams next year will have just that more to prepare for on defense.
Let's not forget, GT was ranked #14 and we were ranked somewhere way down there. Making one helluva showing last night can only help recruiting for those kids who might still be riding the fence.
Without a doubt, when Miles has ample time to prepare his team he is tough to beat. He came in with a game plan and I'm glad he stuck with it just to see if it could be executed. After all, we only scored 3 points in the second half. I wouldn't consider that as trying to run up the score.

I do not think we understood the triple option as much as we understood that we needed to get the game to a point where we would not have to worry about executing against the option. The best defense against the triple option is forcing teams to abandon the triple option.

Brah, put some make up on Johnson and I bet the guy looks like the Joker off the movie"Batman"
He probably made some smart arse comment and anger Les Miles forcing him to fake punt and do an onside kick just to put the first year coach in his place.

I watched the whole clip - don't see where you can claim 'arrogance' at any point.
He sounded just like a coach that just got whipped. I don't understand what you could have wanted him to do.
He mentioned that we were bigger and faster - and we whipped his team on both sides of the LOS.
He paid compliments to JJ.
What else did you expect to see him do? Claim that his whole season was a fraud?

Totally disagree. If you watched the whole game, you saw Ga Tech continue to run the option and LSU absolutely stuffed it. I distinctly recall Hatcher and McCray fighting off blocks to stop the pitch man for a loss or no gain. Believe me, LSU understood how to play the option, and excecuted.

Well? What's to argue? Just because the team played below their talent level all year doesn't mean we didn't have talent. Frankly, judging by the way we had played previously, I was beginning to believe that our talent was over rated. Last night they proved that they had been poorly motivated or poorly coached.
Our OL was pancaking their DL, our DL was steamrolling and into the backfield repeatedly. That is exactly what we expected at the beginning of the season but it never happened until the PB.

Most tiger fans knew the team could play like this...thus the frustration when they played so badly and with no discipline.

The triple option will rarely work against athletic, fast defenses.

Listening to Les' presser: About 9:35-10:05, the "special contacts" comment, I wish we coulda seen JJ's face.
Rule #1 of Les Miles football, don't believe a word he tells the press. You, as the QB, need to learn that quick, also if you ever have specific leg injury, the most specific you can get is upper or lower leg everything else is not necessary.

I totally agree with everything you said, he was gracious in his loss and complimentary of LSU players in particular JJ.
Let's we gracious winners, as well....
It feels good to see LSU play like they did.
