re: Tyrus Thomas No Longer Has A Job

All tyrus was ever good at was dunking...you need a jump shot to make it in the league which is why he never had a shot. Hope he saved his money.

As Tyrus has learned you have to be more than a great athlete. You have to have skills that hopefully you will stick around long enough in college to master.

This dude didn't learn how to play offense with NBA Coaches, you think a college coach would have taught him better?

re: Tyrus Thomas No Longer Has A Job
not to mention he made NFL QB type money over the course of his career

His last contract was 5 years $40 million, but he should have stayed in school

he's been in the league a pretty long time. He certainly "made" it

No you don't .. but you do need to find a role, he could be a good rebounder / defensive player with some work.... some examples of players with no jump shot.. birdman, tyson chandler, reggie evans etc..

The only players that don't need a jump shot are intelligent players...which Tyrus is not. Don't test the hoops knowledge son, u can't challenge it.

What? He's a PF he didn't need a jump shot. He could've easily stayed around as an energy guy but he brings the opposite of that.

Name them. Big Baby? Shack? CTIII? Who are you referring to? All players who leave early leave for the bling? Not to support their families?

Can you imagine how much he'd be pulling with his General Studies degree? I doubt all of us in this thread combined will make as much as he has over his career.

Hopefully he's been smart with his money and can retire as a filthy rich 25 year old. There are worst positions in life.

I hope the highly touted recruits that Johnny Jones has coming in learn something from this. If Tyrus had played for a coach like Jones who would have actually taught him something and he would have stayed for three years then he would actually have a better pro career and make more money in the long run. As Tyrus has learned you have to be more than a great athlete. You have to have skills that hopefully you will stick around long enough in college to master.

He has earned over $35 million in his career so if I was a recruit I wouldn't mind following in his footsteps.

Not saying it would have made THAT much improvement..

But he should have spent 1 or 2 more years at LSU. He was so raw coming out of college. Needed a more defined offensive skillset.

He was the 4th pick in the draft. He made the right decision.

That logic makes no sense. In college he's limited in the amount of time he could work on his game. In the NBA there are no limits and NBA coaches are better at developing players. Leaving was the right decision

re: Tyrus Thomas No Longer Has A Job
cant say he left too early cause he would've slipped immensely in the draft. notice both our second rounders (baby and bass) still play and all of our 1st rounders do not (tyrus, stromile, Randolph slightly)
once they get paid, no one can make you practice enough.
baby luckily went to the Celtics where they had a bunch of MEN to learn from; hence, getting his own nutritionist.

tyrus will play. he played great D at LSU besides dunking and hustled his arse off.
as for the pelicans, aminu's signing really makes no room for him

This. Significant improvement, especially for kids with the physical gifts Tyrus has, in my opinion are first and foremost the responsibility of the individual player.

Brandon Bass works his arse off. He wasn't picked nearly as high nor do I think he had the cieling for improvement that Tyrus had.

This shite ain't rocket science. All of these kids have access to the tools to help make themselves better.

Yes, even at LSU. Treolar was an excellent coach and teacher here when Tyrus was here and he had to have it out with Tyrus to make him come and do the drills they were asking him to do to get better.

Yeah, he made out like a bandit. It was the pro teams he played for that suffered. I'm just coming from the standpoint of an LSU basketball fan who wants them to stay as long as possible and after they leave, for me to be proud of them and enjoy their play in the pros. Tyrus let me down on both of those. So yeah he is rich. Money isn't everything although a lot of you'll think it is.
