Doesn't the coach at southeastern have ties to Tulane?

Yes, he played at Tulane. He's probably the early front runner.

I would think he would be a more viable candidate since he has head coaching experience and has had some success at southeastern

Cann't see Andy getting it with only 2 yrs of college coaching under his belt. The Southeastern HC would be a much stronger candidate going by both his resume' and results produced at SLU. Curious as to what the salary range Pierce got at UT...anywhere close to what CPM would have been entitled to?

cannizaro has it. whatever it is. he should be the guy, IMO.

the fact that everyone keeps saying that it'll probably be riser (he does have a better head coaching résumé, of course) just tells me that cannizaro should be the first choice. lsu fans know they have a great one, and are just trying to hold onto him for as long as they can. don't blame them.

cannizaro has a pretty damn good baseball résumé himself. i think the dude is going to be a star.

well heck yes we scared to lose him

seriously i love cannizaro's coaching.

let us justify them hiring the other guy with hc experience over our guy.. okay..

can we at least hold to him for next season. we return just about everybody. can make a serious run. thanks.

Tulane's AD takes a national approach to finding coaches. Don't be surprised if it's neither of them. Coaches don't need to have Tulane ties for him to go after them. Riser is the better choice of the two because he's had success at a smaller program with almost no budget to work with. But I'm sure there a quite a few coaches on the list of potential replacements and I'm Cannizaro is on that list, but I doubt he gets the nod.

If Canni leaves, do players who decided to stay change their minds?

skip had never been a head coach before lsu. smoke laval had been. how'd that work out?

head coaching experience counts for something. but it's just a component of the overall decision.

lsu will make a serious run next season with or without cannizaro. i think tulane should go after him and make him say no before going after riser or another coach.

of course not. but they're obviously two of the frontrunners.

i think he will be eventually, but Tulane isn't the type of program that is likely to hire a coach with only 2 years experience at the college level. It's certainly not out of the realm of possibilities, though.

Riser interviewed for Tulane job in 2014. I don't think they were ready to hire him after only 1 year of college coaching experience. I think they'll pull this trigger this time around.

This argument is pure stupidity. Skip is the exception to almost every rule when it comes to coaching. The man is arguably the best college coach of all time. To try and use him as a reference point just doesn't work. The likelihood that Cannizaro is the next Skip Bertman is about .000001%, no matter how great of an assistant he is. In the real world, HC experience matters.
