we weren't in prevent on the last drive. our guys just have no passion or intensity

that's the biggest problem. we do play a shitty soft zone D scheme, but in 2006 we did and had a great D. why? passion. intensity. killer instinct. attitude. it appears when laron left, all of our heart on D left also

all they have is a QB and RB

their OL is horrid and their WRs are slow and often small

Every time I watched the D Line, Alem was dropping back in zone. I'm not crazy about the Mustang concept, but I'll give em another week or two.

If we threw in a little variety once in a while, the soft zone would probably work fine. When you run it constantly, the QB just knows to look underneath.

I just don't see why our D line is "weaker then normal". What is going on with that?

Alexander was the other tackle next to Dorsey on one of our strongest lines ever a few years back. Nevis looked like "The next great LSU lineman" whenever he came in that season. Woods was a 5 star guy out of high school who was supposed to be better then all of these guys. Downs....... somehow looked like he would be the best of all of these guys as a true freshman last week.

Weakness is at DE. Not so much at DT.

Hopefully he'll improve. But he's undisciplined. He was absolutely terrible vs Washington. Worst individual performance among team starters IMO last week. He ran himself out of the play on pass rushes and consistently lost contain on runs. I'd like to see Montgomery or someone else get extended playing time at that spot.

IMO, too.

He obviously does not understand the concept that a DE needs to contain and turn the play back in, even if he never makes a tackle. That is what a LB is for. He seems to be trying to make personal stats (sacks, TFL) at the expense of playing his position. And Riley was a close runner-up in terms of being out of position, and many of their critical plays were when the two of them were on the same side and both out of position. Locker had a field day with going around that side.

it all depends on your system

dwight freeney doesn't contain and turn the play back inside, and most NFL DEs in zone schemes (esp tampa 2.5) don't

one problem with the soft arse zone we seem to run is no flat responsibility from the LBs/DBs

they all just drift back 8-10 yards from the LOS

thank you, i'm getting sick of tired of everyone saying "well he didn't contain on that play" You have no idea what the play calls for, especially if you're sending a linebacker to the outside of him
