After being a visitor to this site for years never opening an account, the most recent thread about Lindsey Scott finally made me come here and tell the truth as dispassionately as possible. LSJ will never see the field at lsu.

Yes, I'm from Zachary. Yes, I saw every play of his of his last two years there. Yes, like many here, I was hoping one of the most decorated players in La high school football history would somehow become a legend and replicate that on collegiate level. It ain't happening.

First, LSJ is strictly a spread offense quarterback. That's how he succeeded in hs. That's why he looked pretty decent running scout team as Louisville qb. Thing is, coaches on college and pro level have caught up to that (i.e. more 3-4 formations, hybrid DE/LB like ardent key and von miller). Literally the only qb alive that will succeed running that is cam newton.

The boy is too small, period. Not only that in order to be a great spread qb you have to be an elite passer. LSJ is not an elite passer. What makes people here love the kid so much is bc every intangible you would want in a qb and a leader he has. He comes from a good family and particularly his father, smart, great work ethic, etc. But the higher you go up in athletics there is a baseline of measurables you need and he just doesn't have it. In all skills, per se, he's slightly above average but isn't great at anything.

In today's age you must have a qb capable of winning you a game. Russell Wilson's one year where he had a top 10 ever defense and beast mode was an outlier exception. Etling is the starter bc he has enough of the basic measurables to manage mediocrity: big enough, composed enough, prepared enough. But when you're facing elite teams every other week, what separates you? Having someone capable of imposing their will on the others and winning a game. One half of a spring football game was more than enough. We have the best mind in all of football in Aranda. Our qb and wr play isn't good enough. Enough of the LSJ stuff. Etling will not win us a chip. Unless coaches and fans both realize our best shot is in developing Narcisse and Brennan, we're just delaying the inevitable.

I share your skepticism but I'm not going to count him out just yet.

He will continue to develop and grow in the weight room and field. He can keep battling for the back up spot, and I hope both Frosh qb's can redshirt. Then if something happens and he gets his shot he makes his plays. I think the gap between 1st and 3rd isn't very big.

Truth be told....I thing LJ is a baller and if he got thrown in the mix, worse things could happen....but he should've gone to Harvard.

Dude nobody gives a shite about your personal theories because you saw a kid play in high school. How about you let the kid play his game, put forth the effort, and see where it gets him instead of writing him off on a public forum.

For someone as knowledgeable about football as yourself, you should go back and look at some previous LSU standouts when they were in highschool. You might be a little surprised at how small they were

Yea, Wilson is the glue holding that band aid of an offensive line together

And the spread offense is alive and well in CFB

You mean that Louisville QB who won the Heisman?

Probably could have just pointed out that Scott has two superior qb freshmen coming in.

I gotta disagree.

You dont need an elite arm to be effective in the pro style or spread. Jeff Garcia and others have already proven that. Greg Ward at UH had a hell of career beating top pwr 5 opponents with an average arm. And im not at all saying that LSJ has an average arm. How can you say hes strictly spread if youve never seen him under center? I respect your opinion, but 3000 yds passing in a senior season (highlight showing the ball traveling 50+ yards through the air) at least has me curious. Non of our current guys (except may DE) played under center in HS.

Im slow to question any kid with his work ethic. As far as size, 210-215 lbs seems plenty big enough. It goes like this, if this staff doesnt like him, the rant will say he just couldnt cut it. If they love him, the rant will rejoice. Either way, i would in no way question this kids abilities based upon whats happened here so far.

This is a message board where every post is someone's personal theory. I laid my biases out: I seen him play extensively, I know his character and I'm rooting on his success. But with that said, it is what it is. I don't blame him for rolling the dice and coming to lsu. But if he couldn't get more PT than McMillan, you really think he's gonna beat out Narcisse and Brennan a year from now? Again, let's get real

In that case, move him to running back.

I agree about him being too small to ever be legit. Not his fault.

Coach, why did you recruit him if you knew he had no shot of being successful?

You seem to be hellbent on hitchin your wagon to a guy who has only played 2-3 HS games in 3a football the last two years and a guy who ran a video game offense in one of the smallest school classifications in the five nearest states. One or both may actually
develop into super stars but at this point the odds are still against them.

Unlike the OP, Ive seen the kid under center and in the spread this spring. As ive posted here a few times, he was the only QB to find the endzone a few times. Was ellusive as heck. No opions here, just what i saw.
