Also, Spurrier at LSU would have been awesome. After the beatdowns he gave us

Looking back at it we hired the best coach available. Spurrier is the only one that interested me beside Miles.

The committee did a great job, unlike what we have seen in Texas

I never knew the part about Saban being taken aback by the admins having a list of candidates. You flirt with the NFL for three years and are surprised they were preparing to replace you?

The article also reinforces the tough spot he put us in taking that job when he did. My god, Slocum and Bobby Williams were on the short list of candidates! Miles was the best hire they could have made in that situation.

The bit about Beamer was interesting, I wonder how much truth there is to that.

Am I the only one glad we didn't get Spurrier? Fantastic coach, yes - dominating a weak SEC during his tenure at Florida.

But during that great run only one national championship.

Then time - and the college game - got ahead of him. There's a reason Florida didn't want him back.

Then-Jacksonville Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio never made it to his interview. For fear of his contract being voided by the NFL team, he did not enter the restaurant in Daytona Beach where committee members waited.

They could see Del Rio in his car in the parking lot talking to his agent on the phone.

“Unbelievable,” one committee member described the ordeal.

I thought the Del Rio story was different. That he wanted to wait until after the season or something like that?

First I have heard of the restaurant story.
