Traffic IS the problem, and it's never gonna get better.

In the hunt for dollars and the dick measuring contest with other schools, LSU made its stadium massive and beautiful. And in the process it made the gameday experience more burdensome.
People refuse to accept that a stadium can be too big. Traffic was bad when the stadium capacity was 82k, but it wasn't so bad that it made half the people leave early. Another 20k people means another 8-10k cars on a campus that is basically landlocked by residential neighborhoods. The paths of ingress and egress have never been expanded to accommodate them. Lakes on one side, a river on the other, and outdated roadways all around.
For chrissake, the main drag through the campus (Highland) is still TWO LANES all the way from downtown to the Perkins junction. Acadian can handle some traffic, but the feeder streets are all 2 lane neighborhood streets, so Acadian is rendered useless.
Solutions? Not many.
They should 4 lane Nicholson all the way to Bluebonnet.
4 lane River Road from downtown to Brightside (if not L'Auberge).
Upgrade the shite out of the Nicholson-Brightside intersection (this has been in planning stage for literally 30 years).
I would also suggest plowing out the shithole north of campus and turning Highland into 4 lane super feeder from downtown to State, but politically that will never happen.

Lsu fans apparently are the only fanbase that can't inconvenience themselves with traffic

Upvote.
We should have an 80,000 seat stadium

I must be the only person that doesn't sit in more than 15 minutes of traffic getting back to I-10. If traffic is that bad, find a new spot to park.

The griping is amazing. I don't get to attend often. But, when I do I just set radio to the post game and listen and relax knowing it'll be an extra 30 mins before I get clear sailing.
It is a total of 8 Saturday's a year. Of late, it's been 7.
Not a big deal.

Make all the games at 2:30. Give people plenty of time to get home. Yes, I realize TV dictates the times. It would help though.

They need to fill in the lakes with concrete

The traffic comes to a dead stop on Cellege at Perkins. In short, if those cars were allowed to actually get to the interstate without the lights gumming things up, things would run more smoothly.

I've said this 100 times, but learn the routes around Baton Rouge and traffic wouldn't be a problem. If you're route home is to long, find a different one.
With no traffic it takes me an hour to get home, but I was running around 3 hours to get home. So I looked at the possible routes, found one that I thought I could take, and it takes me a hour and 30 minutes tops.
It's the people who don't know where to go and are congesting a few different routes that are the problem.

So the mayor and DOTD could sync the lights on those nights to make things easier.

I agree. Traffic is a problem but it's not the reason why Tiger Stadium is empty by middle of the 3rd quarter.

We sit post game & semi tail gate till we can see traffic clearing. We'd rather sit there & relax for those "30" minutes that you are suffering through in that dreaded traffic. And at different times I have had to drive as long as an hour or so to get home. Suck it up, like noted, you are talking 8 wkends a year or realistically, one nite a wk for 8 wks. Or even better yet, mabe 6 hrs a nite for 8 nites a wk for a year.

It's not just infrastructure, its actual decisions that create more traffic. For instance, they allow people without parking passes to move up Darymple even after paid parking is full. It took 45 minutes to get from I-10 to Highland on Darymple because people would drive all the way up and then be forced to take a right on Highland that is nearly impassable with people.

What's on the West side of the Mississippi River across from LSU?
You'd think they could set up a system where some people park over there, take a ferry across the river, and then walk or go by bus to the stadium area.

Which is all fine and dandy if you park on the exterior of campus. However, if your parking pass is in the interior of campus, you're stuck regardless of the route you choose.

Has the idea of a rail shuttle between LSU and downtown BR been discussed? Seems like it could eliviate a lot of congestion.

I think you may have misunderstood my post Keltic Tiger. I don't suffer through those 30 minutes at all, I'm satisfied with that. Pack something to drink and snack on for the ride, put on LSU post game, and all is good.

Sure, but BR's entire traffic infrastructure is the problem. Our incompetent decision-makers just plop a stop light at every intersection regardless of the amount of traffic that passes through. Travel down Florida Blvd lately? There are 19 stop lights between O'Neal and Acadian. There should be two at most.
