The hosts were interviewing an old player/reporter and asked him for his starting 5 in SEC history. First name to come out was Shaq at center, then followed with Chris Jackson at G and Pistol at other G. Imagine we could have 4 if Ben Simmons had panned out.

Just begs the question, what the hell happened to LSU basketball?

This brings up a good point that I've considered in the past. LSU is nowhere near what you would call a blueblood in basketball, but an LSU all-time greats team could stack up with just about any all-time greats team from any other school IMO.

You know the greatest NBA PF of all time went to LSU as well, right?

Pretty sure Tim Duncan went to Wake Forest.

I don't consider Duncan to be a PF. If Duncan is one, then so is L. Bird and M. Johnson. The list becomes pretty murky then..

But even if I give you Duncan, that'd still give Pettit almost a 60 year reign as the greatest before he was overtaken. It's amazing how many people forget about him..

He even has a freaking street named after him! Shaq doesn't even have that.

College? I'd go with Rudy Macklin, easily. He'd destroy other small forwards down low, and could defend them too. With Pete and CJ, you don't need another outside shooter.

Adding this- it's amazing the amount of talent that came through the SEC in the 80's. Several programs could field some serious all-time teams, that you'd never consider to be power programs.
Example- Auburn. It's insane to remember that they trotted out a team with BOTH Charles Barkley and Chuck Person on the floor, and weren't able to do more than they did. Those were both NBA All-Stars, and I think they had a couple of other guys who could at least jump and dunk, Chris Morris I think. I think they out-rebounded LSU by 30 or something one game.

That is well known to people that have any knowledge of college basketball. The only team that can come close is UCLA
Shaq vs Kareem
Pettit vs Walton
Chris Jackson vs Westbrook
Pistol Pete vs Reggie Miller
UCLA has more guys after that, that are really good players, but you'd be hard pressed to find a group that can beat LSU, on paper.
Pistol and Jackson have scoring averages that will never be broken. They are two of the more unattainable records in all of sports.
