Dropping truth about the LSU baseball team. It’s worth the listen. Dude knows his stuff.

Cliffs notes
1. We have to throw strikes. Walking people is not acceptable. Give me someone that can throw strikes and we will get them out.
2. Hess is a 5 inning max pitcher with an over 5 era. First round talent but it’s killing the bullpen for the weekend when he can’t last past 4.
3. We have to be smarter at the plate. Learn to be patient and swing at the right pitches relative to the pitch sequence.
4. Hilliard/Walker needs to be the Friday night guy.
5. Hess needs to be the closer backing up Peterson in the late innings.

I wish they would use Hess in the Jared Bradford role.

Have him available to close out Fri or Sat game and if not used could start on Sunday.

Hilliard is no where close to being ready to take over on Friday nights.

I really can't understand why Mainieri has Hess in the starting rotation. It made sense last year to a degree with the Walker injury and a lack of options, but we have more options this year.

Hess is a damn savage when he goes in as a closer. That's where he needs to be.

We need a hitting coach that actually knows how to hit.

Options?
Hill- resting
Hilliard-trying to overcome arm ptoblem
Marceau-starting, but like Hess struggling
Walker-on come back trail, progressing
Others?????

It's not as is we have a lot of options right now. Perhaps down the road, but right now I don't see a rotation evolving. There are too many unknowns.

I have nothing against former players on staff but for the whole staff to be all former players it's a bit much.

You need different ideas and different approaches.

It was the same thing when Javi was here and they struggled so much on offense.

Sometimes a different approach in the dugout can really help.

It's one of my only knocks on PM - hire the best qualified assistant for the job.

So he’s as smart as the majority of this board?

You can pay so few coaches in college baseball, that it's not really an option to fill your coaching staff full of big names for everything. Maybe a better hitting coach is needed, but our hitting hasn't really been an issue when you look at the big picture so far. Now, if we struggle to score runs in SEC play, then I'll agree with you.

GOAT & he nailed it. When can he step in as head coach? My favorite baseball tiger of all time!

He just said absolutely he would be open to being the head coach at LSU someday.

I don't disagree with anything he stated. However, we aren't in a position, at the moment, to use Hess as a closer. We need him as a starter until we get Hilliard back and full-go.
