short-side option

I just don't understand this. This fricking play needs to die...

the speed option needs to be taken out of the offense unless a QB that is a running threat is in the game, period....

but for the 4 millionth time, there is nothing wrong with running an option to the short side of the field.

Yea sorry I misread that. But also overall I believe the short side option should be pit some near the back of the playbook, like next to flea flickers and fumblerewskis...

Didn't see him out there. Could very well be that he just didn't attract attention.

Pretty good percentage...wish it were a little higher.

Any injuries? Please say no.

No injuries. There was a hard tackle against Hilliard that made me nervous. He was a little slow to get up, but jogged off just fine.

I don't believe there's anything wrong with it, I'm only saying it should be used in moderation, like less than we use it. By the time a qb(slow or fast) makes his read at the end of the line, there's so little room. Thus there is little room for error on the pitch and even less room for the rb to work with. Hey if we make it work then great but I just haven't seen much success with it.

The short side option worked quite well against bama when the Tigers beat them 9-6 in OT. The short side option set up the winning field goal.

we shouldn't be running the option at all, but an option team is going to mix sides throughout the game. The short side is a quicker play and takes advantage of the fact that the defense is going to have fewer defenders on that side, thus fewer to get to the point of attack. On the wide side, they can slant lb's and safeties down the line to string the play out.

In reality, last year what you saw wasn't really an option play but more of a quick sprint pitch designed to get the back to the edge faster than a straight pitch could. The only time Mett actually kept was when a defender got between him and the back and he couldn't make the pitch.

(Rettig and Bolden didn't get any meaningful snaps that I saw)

Rettig was 4/6 61 yards 2TD. To Magee and Diarse

I like that Dural caught 4/71. He can be huge for us this year.

WM runs the option to the short side 75% of the time. Like you said, less defenders.

The overall atmosphere of the practices is much more serious than last year. They seem fired up and more about-their-business than last year, where they were seen joking around a lot.
