are we not still one of the most talented teams in the country?

and I'll give O next year as a throw away year

but we should start seeing results by year 2

elite coaches make their mark by then

He hasn't won a game at LSU yet. I reserve judgment until this time next year.

How can you apply the same standard to O in (full) year one as you did to Miles in year 11?
It doesnt make sense.

Miles went 11-2 in his first year.

9-3. Is that unreasonable? Anything worse than that should be unacceptable.

There is only one elite coach in this country, and he ain't here.
I know thats a shock to some but we have to be sober minded.
Coaches need to be fired when they are under performing with the talent on hand.
Miles needed to go for this reason....and should "O" under perform then his fate must be the same.
Until then we need to give the man a chance.

We will be far better off going into this next season, with new OC (Canada), DC (Aranda)

Agreed.
I am far from an Orgeron "hater". I have posted multiple times that he was a better choice than the second tier candidates who were being mentioned. Plus, he is a step up from Miles.
However, some of his decisions and steps looked clumsy in the past few weeks. Hopefully, going forward, he will be more sure footed. The key is to finish recruiting strong.
IMO, the Bama game was predictable and the UF game was all about turnovers and the breaks not going our way. The game was won everywhere except the scoreboard.

I 100% agree and will also add....if O goes 6-6 or worse, then he should be fired. Ive made it clear I was not in the O camp from the beginning.

I can list some, but it is irrelevant because you will disagree

and there are also elite coaches that haven't got the chance yet

Just for the sake of argument, I recognize Urban Meyer as an elite coach.

Well I disagree with the premise of this statement.

We know who the established elite coaches are. But there are coaches that can grow into being elite. That group of Meyer/Saban/Harbaugh will not exist in perpetuity. Someone will crash the party.

Once upon a time Saban was just another coach. Same for Meyer, same for Harbaugh. If you don't have one of those guys, you try to look for an embryonic form of those types of coaches. You don't settle on someone that we KNOW will not grow into being a Meyer or a Saban. Orgeron is grown up. This is who he is. He cannot turn into an elite coach.

As it turns out, our AD doesn't have the stones or the ability to look for that diamond in the rough. So here we are.

I don't hate coach "O" at all, you would be hard pressed to find more than 5 people on this board that have a problem with him at all. My hate is Joe Alleva, and the shite show of a coaching search. Last years non-firing and a host of other things. O was offered the job and he took it! Can't blame the man, I would too. I'm gonna hold him to the same standard I'd hold any HC here. Just because people are frustrated with the hire, does not mean people hate coach O.

I would concede that and eventually Harbaugh (remains to be seen)

These are established coaches.....Elite is a term reserved for the one who has proven to be so....as much as I hate to admit it.

I think you are confusing "elite" with "best"

there can be multiple elite coaches

OK then who are these multiple elite coaches we should be going after.....granted I'm still not comfortable with the "O" hire.

But I just don't see all these elite coaches ready to come to LSU....like when Saban sought out the LSU job.

again...I could name some, but you will more than likely disagree, so it is a pointless exercise

I doubt you would have considered Saban elite when he was coming from Michigan State considering your definition of elite

Miles wasn't fired for 10 win seasons. He was fired for not getting 10 win seasons ANYMORE and becoming less competitive in the SEC
