Mathieu is not the best NFL ready corner in college.

So only one cornerback will be taken in the entire 7 round draft?

He is a playmaker and forces turnovers and does a decent job with returning punts. How bad does an NFL team want a punt returner and a good nickel?

Seeing how pass happy the NFL is these days, I'd say that's position is in high demand. Throw the punt returning as a bonus. NFL guys don't like to use one of their 53 man roster spots for a return specialist.

Do you realize how special of a defensive player you have to be to get an invite to new york for the heisman?

You apparently dont have a clue

Get hostile and call him a dumbass all you want but in all reality what relevenace does a Heisman trophy have to do with NFL talent? Nothing. There is a hell of a difference between being a good college football player and a good NFL player. Check out the USC QBs who have won the Heisman, the OU QB, the list goes on and on.

Intelligent post. Yes I think only one CB is going to get drafted in 2013. If you actually read my post you will see I simply said the others that the poster mentioned were the best at their respective positions in the country. When you are the best at your position legal troubles are going to get overlooked sometimes. Mathieu is not the best at his position. It was quite a simple statement and very easy to follow.

Again, the NFL wants cover corners. Do they draft many players because of their ability to "force turnovers". I don't know seriously. I am asking. I dont know if there has ever been another player with his knack for forcing turnovers at the collegiate level, but not quite the skillset to be a cover corner in the NFL. I guess we will see.

He better be training his tail off. Maybe it was just me but he looked fat in the arrest photo that I saw recently. I don't think he will be drafted too high. Too much of a risk due to his personal problems in my opinion. He will go as a free agent and may make the last cut too be on a team.

Jeremy Hill did not play football last year, just like Tyrann this year.

He will be on a roster for a while barring any more frickups.

Great special teams player/OUTSTANDING nickel back. You are delusional if you don't think that has value with a lot of teams.

He will be a great complementary piece on a defense.

Peyton Manning was due to an injury. The point is that sitting out a season does not make a player lose his skills. Does it take time to shake off the rust, sure. But a 20 year old athlete will not lost all football skills for life because he sat out one season.

Jeremy Hill sat out last season for legal issues. He has shown this year that he didn't lose all of his skills by sitting out one season. Hill and Mathieu situations are very similar as it relates to football.

It doesn't have to do with skills, it has to do with the physical aspects of the game.

Everyone knew Peyton would be in peak physical condition because he's Peyton Manning. He has an almost 15 year track record of excellence and dedication. wasn't going to show up for camp 40 lbs overweight.

And with Hill, no one would have known about his condition of he was not ready. He just redshirts and we go with the other guys.

There are certainly going to be questions about what he has been doing with his free time. He already made the decision that weed was more important than football once, is it a stretch to believe that he might be choosing weed over staying in shape?

Another example of a lack of discipline in Miles program. He is everyone's best friend and not feared. As a father figure your players need to fear as well as respect you.

Exactly.

I don't see what is so difficult to understand about this. None of us know for sure what he has been doing since his latest arrest. You can speculate all you want, but none of us know.

As far as the other NFL players that have had legal trouble being used as a comparison, its not, because they kept on playing and were able to showcase themselves.

There is a big difference in forcing turnovers at the collegiate level and being an NFL ready CB. Some of you are acting like he is your child and we are saying he is terrible. No one said that. Simply saying he isn't that great of a CB. He was a FANTASTIC NB, not a great CB.

I admit, I didn't read all of your conversation with whatever poster you were debating.

NFL guys aren't drafting a player for just one year, or the first 6 games. They are making a long term investment. Nobody said that Mathieu has to walk in a start from day 1. Somebody will draft him based off of his ability.

The biggest knock on Mathiue will not be size, ability, or playing shape. It will be his commitment to the game and willingness to stay out of trouble.

Exactly, which is why it might be a risk to an NFL team to take him, given his recent lack of discipline. Obviously none of us know what the hell any of the NFL GMs are thinking and where he will get drafted, but I would certainly think his history would be a cause for concern.

The biggest question will certainly be the trouble he has been in and his commitment level. However, his cover skills are certainly a question mark. Think about him covering Calvin Johnson or Andre Johnson or even AJ Green. I'm not really confident that he could. Again, just my worthless opinion, but I don't think the cover skills he showed at LSU would allow him to cover some of the NFLs top WRs. Doesn't mean he won't get drafted. Just means I think he will find a spot in the 5-7 rounds more than likely.
