Duplantis should be batting fifth or sixth (at worst). There is no reason to bury him in the order.

Last year - Antoine Duplantis .327
This year he is still at .313 (or better after tonight - higher than Kramer, Josh and Jake - and of course higher than Papierski).

He was out back there to kick start the bottom of the order and it's worked so far

He didn't move to the bottom because he was struggling. He was moved because the bottom 3 were a black hole.

Yes, let's cut the at bats of our fourth or fifth best hitter. You won't see that at another top college baseball team (let alone the majors). The fact that Pap bats in front of him is absurd.

When we won it all in 09 Schimpf batted ninth and was at least our 4th best hitter

I don't think it was the whole season. He had the second most at bats on the team that year.

Exactly it serves no purpose having him at the bottom of the order. Btw Shimpf hit 2nd most of the 09 season and never once hit in the 8th or 9th spot.

Ahh you're right, I was thinking of 2008, which is still our second best finish under Mainieri. Not saying putting him at the top isn't better, but it's not something completely unheard of to put a good hitter ninth to turn the order over. Nor is it something we've never done with success

Its working. Leave it. He started to struggle for a while. He was best in 9 hole last year too

True it paid off for us using Freeman there last season. But this year our offense isn't balanced enough to do that. We need to be able to put big innings together and having an order that goes 1 through as many consistent guys as we can put together just seems like common sense. I give credit to CPM for finally beefing up the middle of the order and putting some protection for Deichman in there. But Romero isn't really consistent enough to be a cleanup hitter. He's the ideal 5 man, tremendous power but a kind of feast or famine type. Just seems simple, Kramer, Freeman and Duplantis 1 through 3 in no particular order followed by the big bats. Duplantis is arguably the best hitter of the three I mentioned and why did CPM move him to 9th instead of Freeman who's been there before and had a much more severe slump to start league play.

Duplantis never hit 9th last year and batted 8th for 1 game only. He mostly hit lead off or 3rd last season.

yea was thinking freeman. Would still leave him there. Bottom of line up was way too weak

I would say he was our best hitter that year. Led the team in homers, doubles, runs, and was second in RBI's. (Schimpf had 70 and Dean had 71)
Id rather Dean or Lemahieu in most situations that year, but Schimpf was the man.

Yes it would make more sense to put Freeman back there than Duplantis. He and Kramer are def top of the order type hitters.

Quit thinking line up construction in college is like little league. Batting 9th is a better spot in the lineup at this level than 8th. You want a guy there to be a second lead off hitter to turn the lineup over to the top of the lineup with runners on base. Speedy runners on base at that. CPM always has a guy with decent speed and will give you quality at bats from the 9 hole.
