Kids don't grow up in Missouri wanting to play for Missouri. That's not the case here either, but that could change at LSU.
While mizzou may be easier to take over and make the tourney next year, LSU is easier to build a program that can reach final fours.

It's definitely a better basketball job, and it's a better football job, too. You can have one of the 20 greatest tenures in the history of the game and still get fired from LSU, whereas if you do that at Mizzou, they'd name a stadium after you.

So lower expectations = better job. Got it. If they attract coaches that feel the same way, they'll keep winning at their current pace.

He's certainly entitled to his opinion, but the LSU fans who act like this is just some horrible job are pathetic. Just because LSU has a bozo AD who's made shitty hires doesn't mean the job itself is bad. The right coach could win and win big here.
1. The SECN contract is the most lucrative in the nation. The money it provides to the schools is not strictly earmarked for football. Football will always be king in the SEC, but there is more than enough left over to pay a great basketball coach, upgrade facilities, etc.
2. The same recruiting advantages LSU has in football are there for basketball. I know this might come as a shock to some, but the state of Louisiana produces a lot of good basketball talent. As of opening day this year there were 11 players on NBA rosters born in Louisiana. That's the same amount as WA, PA, GA, and MORE than FL, NJ, VA, MO, etc. Pretty remarkable when you consider most of the states tied or ahead of LA have populations double or triple LA. Only Indiana produces more NBA talent per capita (unless you also want to count DC and the fact that ND has 2 players relative to an incredibly small population)

In addition to the fact that LA produces more than its fair share of great players, Baton Rouge alone produces an inordinate amount of good talent.

The link above is two years old, but still pertinent. At the time of the article Baton Rouge was T-7th in terms of NBA players. Only NYC, Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago and Philadelphia had more. BR was tied with Seattle, Memphis and Baltimore, and had more than Houston and Atlanta. Doesn't sound like much until you realize BR is the 93rd largest city in the US. That list doesn't even include Damian Jones who is also now in the NBA.
BR routinely has top 100 players just about every year, and that's not even the largest city in the state!
LSU has money, tradition (ex: the 4 best scoring season by class in NCAA history are solely held by LSU players Maravich and Jackson), and most importantly, proximity to a lot of talent.
Maybe if LSU and its fans would stop looking at the basketball program as some poor insignificant step child rather than the monster it as the potential to be, we could actually get somewhere.
There is a TON of potential here (just like there was in 1999 when Saban was hired). Someone just has to have the confidence to sell it!
