the OP is playing in creative mode which gives him an infinite amount of every type of block and resources. Creative mode is only used to build cool things, The other mode in the game is survivor mode, where you have to defend yourself against mobs that come out at night(creepers, spiders, and zombies) and you don't have an infinite amount of resources and blocks. You can only place blocks that you have found and placed in your inventory. It's fun, I have spent a few hundred hours playing it since it came out in 2010.
