Did anyone else notice that the College Colors Day that was just on ESPN used a medley of LSU Drum Cadences for its background music? Sounded similar to what LSU used for their halftime promo commercials the past few years. I have many fond memories of marching to the stadium playing those.

I was just going to ask the same question. I've heard it all week on ESPN radio, and was convinced it was the LSU cadence. My brother and I are both Tiger Band alumni, and I just emailed him to ask him if it was the LSU cadence.

Its a damn shame that they don't play Blue Building anymore.

I was on the first line that played Blue Building(1996-97). I hate that they ditched it, as well.

I clicked on a WalMart football party link today. You put in your last name and it generates and evite type thing for your game watching party where your name appears in the endzone. Totally sounds like our drum line.

Sorry, can't find the link. But it was LSU. I'd swear it!

Most of it IS "Bleu Raeders", the traditional LSU "marching to the stadium" cadence. Started using it in 1978.........

The Bama radio station here in bamaland, JOX fm, has been pimpin that commercial all week long. The LSU drum cadence is BY FAR the best thing I have ever heard on there.

This guy was drum captain during my years at LSU. He is probably the best field snare drummer on earth. He is absolutely insane:

Check this shite out.

Yep. When my brother and I were in the band (1969, 1972), we used Cotton Bowl 1964 as our standard march to the stadium. I knew it was changed sometime after my last year in the band (1975), but I didn't know when.

For all you GBFTL alumni and others,

Do ANY of ya'll remember the drum cadence and cheer that the band used to play in the stands
when LSU had the ball, especially in between plays and/or when LSU was in the huddle?

I heard it first as a child in the 1969 LSU-Auburn game (my first), and I think they played it all the way up until the 80's.

It went something like: Gooooo! Dumm Dumm Dumm Dum ta da, Goooooooo! Dumm Dumm Dumm Dum ta da, Gooooooo! Biiig Tiiigers, Goooooo! Dumm Dumm Dumm Dum ta da, Goooooo! Dumm Dumm Dumm Dum ta da.
And with every Gooooo!, the whole band would throw out their right arm and fist in the air. It was beautiful.

I think they replaced it with that brief, fast, mini version of 'Hold That Tiger' when LSU has the ball. Da Da Da Daaaa! Gooooo Tigers! Da Da Da Daaaaaaaa! Goooo Tigers!, etc.

But I liked the old one better. Wish they would bring that back (along with the big block letter end zones.)

That cadence was played during the entire time both my brother (a drummer) and I were in the band, 1969-1975. By the way, that game (Auburn 1969) was my first as well. As a 15 year old HS football player, and a Tiger fan since I was 6 years old, what a great game for my first time in Tiger Stadium! Mike Anderson blocks a field goal attempt, and George Bevan blocks an extra point attempt to save a 21-20 victory for LSU!

I played snare during the transition years from Blue Building to Blue Bass.

Blue Bass replaced Blue building in '99 as the third cadence in the sequence after Blue Raiders and Blue Balls.

Blue Bass was named after the composers (Travis Downs, a percussion GA) nickname. His nick name was T-Bass

I like both cadences about the same. Blue Bass is more fun to play. We wanted to play all of them but Wickes and Morehouse shut that down quick. They didnt want the sequence to be too long.

Remember it like it was yesterday (even though I was very little.) Halfback pass from Gilbert to Hamilton for a TD on the first play of the game. Pat Sullivan, Terry Beasley and Mickey Zofko vs Bevan, Anderson, Thomason, Casanova, etc.
I also remember driving up Airline Hwy with my Dad and the La State Trooper's son who we got the SEZ tickets from (Tamborella I think), past the Snake Farm, Bluebird's, and Hopper's. I think the SEZ had a shell parking lot then. I remember the SEZ was painted orange with blue "A U" lettering.

I remember the Mets had just won the World Series, and Michigan would later upset Ohio State 24-12.
We lost to Ole Miss and Archie the next week 26-23, which probably cost us an unbeaten season and possible Cotton Bowl vs #1 Texas.

I sure wish they'd play that drum cadence sometime.

Good memories.

I was sitting near the top of the SEZ, maybe I saw you! Yeah, when we threw the halfback pass on the first play, I about went out of my mind!

It took an all out effort for the Tigers to beat the (eventual, 1971, I think) Heisman Trophy winner in Pat Sullivan and a great Auburn team. Homecoming, if I remember correctly, on ABC in an afternoon affair.

Great memories....

Bleu Raiders is a staple cadence for Louisiana marching bands. I played it highschool, and I think they still use it 12 years later. Its good that LSU still uses it, considering that a lot of university drumlines are now playing some version of Electric Wheelchair.

Excellent cadence BTW.. its been over done though.

Raiders is an extremely easy cadence, but is very recognizable. I hope they never take it out of the sequence

Jeff Prosperie is a DCI percussion judge now. He was a freshman snare drummer at LSU in 1983 if my memory is correct.

All the ex-LSU drumline (Phi Boota Roota) members from 1978(First year of Corps Style)to the present should try to get together and have their own reunion at the regular Tiger Band Alumni Band thing this Halloween at the Tulane game. Don't know if there is enough time to organize it at this late date though.......
