ABOUT THE TIGER ATHLETIC NUTRITION CENTER

The Tiger Athletic Nutrition Center will serve as a resource to provide individualized nutritional meals for student-athletes at LSU. Full time chefs and nutritionists will be housed in the facility to provide expertise on balanced and nutritional diets to enhance this aspect of the overall athletic training process. Healthy and proper eating choices combined with state of the art strength training will provide these young people with a complete fitness regimen while competing at LSU.

The nutrition center will include a large dining room, kitchen, lounge area and a “fueling station” open extended hours, according to renderings. A concrete plaza encircles the building, which adheres to the campus’ Spanish-style architecture.

Renderings show a facility with a Spanish tile roof and archways across its front. There is seating in an outdoor plaza area that’s marked with trees.

The facility will serve all LSU athletes. Athletes currently eat in student dining halls. Most Southeastern Conference teams have athlete-only dining halls or are in the process of building athlete-only dining halls.

LSU director of sports nutrition Lauren Reagan said student-athletes take a toll on their bodies. The nutrition center will help reduce the strain on their bodies, she explained. Student-athletes currently have access to three fueling stations across campus, which are primarily used for post-workout nutrition or snacks, rather than providing a full meal. The 22,500-square-foot facility will not only provide full meals for the student athletes, but also educate them on nutrition. “We have dietitians in there that can educate them while they are eating as opposed to text messages or emails sending pictures of their plates from home,” Reagan said.

The nutrition center will feature a chef capable of providing balanced meals to assist the student-athletes recover from their rigorous lifestyle.

The Tiger Athletic Nutrition was funded entirely from private donations collected by the Tiger Athletic Foundation. TAF president Rick Perry believes the nutrition center is a necessity for our student-athletes, and not a luxury.

Looks good. A tad generic but at least it's keeping with the campus theme.

I mean how big does the LSU foundation building need to be? That looks plenty big.

Initially pegged as a $20 million headquarters, developers are now scaling back the project since plans to lease unneeded space in the building fell through. The redesign became necessary after LSU officials balked at making lease payments to the foundation for the use of university-related space within the building. Consequently, the building will solely serve as the upscale home to the foundation.

It's to my understanding the architect for those renderings did not get the bid, so it won't look like that. I'm bummed because I think those renderings are fantastic

Welp, since this thread went a little off track in talking about the new LSU Foundation Building as well...not that I mind that at all...I'm confused as to which renderings you're referring to.

The ones for Tiger Athletic Nutrition Center came from LSU sports.

I'm referring to the foundation renderings. I loved the concepts you posted. I kind of agree with the earlier post that the nutrition center looks a little tacky

Construction on the LSU Foundation Center for Philanthropy is projected to be finished by summer 2016. The space now occupies the undeveloped lot across from Tiger Stadium.
A local architecture firm, Holden Architects, and an international firm, HKS, are the architects behind the project, said Sara Crow, senior director of Communications and donor relations for the LSU Foundation. Milton J. Womack, Inc. is the project’s contractor. Construction began in May 2015.

FYI, this is what a "fueling station" looks like at LSU:

quote:

As LSU “Healthy Tiger” fueling stations offer, a big lineman stopped on his way from lifting weights to changing into his practice uniform. He surveyed the smorgasbord laid out before him in the football practice facility, grabbed a beef jerky and a plum, and moved on. And Jamie Meeks nodded and smiled.

“Now the athletes, no matter where they are, at the football facility, at the Cox Academic Center or at the north stadium weight room, they have a place to grab a snack,” she said. “In the mornings we have hot breakfast sandwiches.”
