You can prevent this - Bertman was a master at making sure his teams were ready at the right time psychologically.

You see it in all sports. A team that goes undefeated or close to it craps out at the end (patriots, LSU fball, etc..). Then you have team that gets hot at the right time (ravens last year).

A lot of these comments are legit but there is one thing missing. North Carolina had something to do with this. They have equally good coaches, players, etc. You have to give the other team credit sometimes. If the roles were reversed, we would be thumping our chest as to how great our pitching was against their great hitters. UCLA and North Carolina played better than LSU those 2 games. Yes, LSU had mistakes, hitting slump, etc. I just don't see why sometimes you can't just tip your hat to the other team and move on.

Don't include Ibarra in that.
He knocked the snot out of the ball all tournament long. Just right at people. It happens.

Bertman routinely traded early and mid-season losses for experiments. Experiments that usually paid off situationally in the CWS.

I got the impression from watching on TV that most of our hitters, especially in the UCLA game, were swinging for the fences for the most part. We repeatedly took monster rips at balls that were high and out of the strike zone. That is not a good recipe at any time, but especially bad in a ball park that is not homerun friendly.

That is because you don't have any clue as to what you are looking at and assume that just because a player hits a flyball that he was swinging for the fences.

You can always tell the mentally challenged by their aggressive responses.

Bertman and Polk always said peaking at the right time was essential for post season success...they also both used to say "thats Baseball"

Hell, it hurts a lot for me as well. However, that is no reason to act like a child.
