just like the draft has down years for QB's - this feels as though it wasnt the best of times to hire a HC. there arent many superstars out there to be had. frankly, i dont agree that jimbo would be a great hire. herman probably would have been, but i think he was always going to be a texas hire if texas was replacing strong. so in that sense, bad luck for LSU that texas was replacing coach this year in a year when the best available might be herman.
orgeron w/ great coordinators and staff is still far better than recent years under miles. it's not a dream situation but i'll take it. the bigger question for me is if orgeron doesnt compete at the very top levels of sec play - how long will the admin wait to make a change? that was the problem with miles. he had many 8 or 9 win years and logic was you cant fire an 8 or 9 win coach... so miles era dragged out for over a decade even though some people could see it from very early on that the program wasnt getting anywhere with him
if O doesnt get the program going really fast - dont drag this out

LSU had 3 months to make this happen

Every year is a down year when Joe Alleva is employed.

3 months cant magically produce coaching candidates that arent out there
