If LSU can’t beat Bama under the lights in Death Valley in front of 102,321, no one can.

Geaux Tigers!

Doing it once does not mean they will do it twice, which is what will have to happen I fear.

Bama would just get another mulligan.

They would have another 3rd place finish in the SEC and win the national championship.

If we can beat them the way we beat Georgia, which is a mighty big if, then that could finish them in the eyes of the playoff committee.

Right

But we also need to run the table (which we have to do anyway for our own purposes) so they don't win the west.

If they're shut out of the SECCG they don't make it unless both teams in that game emerge with 2 losses.

If we lose to UF/UGA/KY and both teams have 2 losses and they have 1 loss and get in you're going to see the college football world go crazy

True but if we win out, Clem wins out, ND wins out and Mich or Texas wins out, Bama might be left out.

Especially Michigan. Barely lost to ND (who would be 2 or 3) and a conference Championship.

Bama is the only team that can get in the NCG without even winning the SEC! A lot of Saban ball suckers out there!

I would say for LSU this is like an additional playoff game, yes. We need to win it to win the SEC title, which is a requirement for us to get into the actual playoff.

For Bama this is a scrimmage that doesn't mean much. They can lose, finish third in the SEC, and sit at home waiting on their inevitable invite to the playoff.

A non-sec champ Alabama is not getting in the playoff if Notre Dame is undefeated. That would basically mean no Big 12,Big 10,or Pac12 in the playoff. 3 of your power five conferences losing their minds at the same time. However it would be the quickest way to an 8 team playoff.

Texas wins out, Bama might be left out.

One loss Texas or Mich wouldn't get in over 1 loss Bama.

The only way Bama is left out is if they lose 2 games. 1 loss Bama would even get in over undefeated ND.

I don't think so. ND plays a decent schedule and Mich would be a Champ. I see them valuing the conference championship over them just being Bama.

I disagree.

I think folks are underestimating Bama Fatigue. The Cmte will look for opportunities to keep Bama out. And those 1-loss teams that are conf champs would fit the bill.

*Especially* given Bama's weak schedule. They would have lost to the only ranked team on their schedule at season's end. (Assuming LSU wins out and a&m does what a&m does.)

The idea of the CFP is to get the best teams in the playoffs. The fact that Bama backed into the CFP last year and then won the title will possibly give the committee an avenue to do it again I'm afraid.

However, if that bumps out a 1 loss Big 10 or Big 12 then controversy ensues and things are no better than the BCS scenario.

If this happens it could be the 1st step to going to 8 team playoff.
