Yes, last nights game was extremely disappointing as we all want LSU to win ever game. An early season game on the road in a very hostile arena will make our young guys grow up very quickly and that's exactly what we need. The fact that we had a chance to tie or take the lead on the last possession speaks volumes for this team. That took guts to be able to over come 26 TOs and fight back to make it a game at the end.

Skylar Mays will be just fine, he tried to force things in a few possessions at the end. That's what great players do, they try to take over games at the end. Skylar just couldn't get the shots/plays to go his way. Mark my words, there will be another time this year where Skylar hits that game winner or big shot to put LSU up.

I see a lot of posts regarding our team being undersized, yes I think we are a bit undersized on the block. But, I don't think that will hurt this team in the majority of our games. Last night, size didn't have anything to do with the outcome. Guard/Forward oriented rotations is the new modern basketball, you don't see as many teams playing with a traditional center down low.

IMO, the biggest weakness to this team right now is the loss of Tre Waters. I love Smart and he is going to be/already is a great player for LSU. But, we need that ball handler that can create offense. Someone that can drive the lane and kick for open threes or draw defenders in the paint to create easy baskets down low. Right now, we don't have that guy. Smart and Mays play better off the ball. I thought Mays had some killer drives in the second half yesterday. I'm hoping we put Skylar at the 1 and move Smart off the ball to help spread the floor.

I look for Watford and Manning to show up soon. These guys were talked about highly in the off season. Wade has a lot of confidence in them and I think that will begin to show in the next few games.

Just my .02c guys, I don't think we should be panicking right now. Wade has another good team this year.

Agree. Mays forced some shots last night although that last shot at the end was one he probably makes 8 out of 10 times.Saw some good post moves from wottford finally. he needs to reduce the turnovers but showed he can score on the block. Way ahead of Naz in that respect. need more from manning and Bishop but they showed more last night than at home against bowling green. played good mid major team on road so not that concerned, especially when they fought back and got the lead. foul by emmit at end was game killer though. need to be smarter than that. If they learn and grow from the loss then it was worth it.

To play as bad as they did with the turnovers and all the foul calls against them, and to only lose by 2. That’s encouraging considering the above.

Early season loses do not bother me too much. It is how you play in the December and the league that matters. After last hopefully we just have a "normal" 20+ game win season.

I was hoping that Hyatt would be more of a contributor this year. When Marlon makes it back, i doubt you see Hyatt get many minutes.

I also hope Bishop can be a primary ball handler. It would be nice to have him come in the game and allow Mays/Smart to play off the ball.

Look at the stats! We were the better team outside of turnovers and fouls. They shot 12 more free throws than us and we had a chance to win at the end.

Smart was way too passive last night. He needs to play with swagger every night. I'm afraid the crowd was in his head a bit. He needs to find a way to channel that into becoming an epic heel on the road.

We have got to keep Days out of foul trouble. He needs more touches, Javonte needs more shot attemtps, as does Watford.

I like Mays determination but he shouldn't be taking 17 shots in one game. He's never been that high percentage of a shooter. Drive the lane and dish you have too many good shooters around you.

We will improve but absolutely have to cut down on the turnovers.

Hyatt had 7 rebounds in only 15 minutes.

Who do you want taking those shots? If Mays didn't we wouldn't have had a chance to win the game.
Later in the season, I expect to see others understand their role and give him some help.

Days only had 4 shot attemtps. He was 4 for 4. Smart only attempted 9 shots he was 5-9. Watford was 5-10.

Skylar was 8 for 17. Spread the floor more. I love Skylar but he's not a high percentage shooters. We have got to get Days and Javonte more involved with shot attempts.

I overlooked that stat in the box score, that's encouraging to see. I just thought he looked timid in the first two games. That may just be because its his first two games played on the college level. Dude looks totally different since he has made it on campus.

We will need him for 8-10 minutes a game. If he can give us that type of rebound production with another 4-5 points I'll be happy.

We really need Marlon back also.

Obviously this team has issues right now, most of us can see we are just not too cohesive, a good bit of our TOs were due to miscommunications . Also like others pointed out we don't necessarily have someone to create shots for others, I think this is where Will and Co need come in sometimes and call plays/motions/sets for other guys.

Javonte and Skylar can get their buckets and will, and I think as long as Watford progresses he can get there too. Also the defense was much better the second half, keep building on that. DARIUS DAYS STOP FOULING

I think the early foul trouble threw them out of rhythm and they just couldn't find a rotation. I doubt Wade wanted to play Mays 38 minutes, but he had to.

Defensively they are still, at best, inconsistent. To allow at team like VCU, who isn't a great offensive or shooting team to score 84, even at home, is not good. But LSU was at least able to lock down in the second half to allow them to come back. In 2+ years under Wade his teams have been able to play great defense in spurts, but rarely for an entire game.

Tremont was SORELY missed last night. He controlled tempo, created offense and was a one man press beater. This team doesn't have a true PG this season. Smart is a tremendous player. But he is a scorer, not a facilitator. Same for Mays. You can win and win a lot with those guys. But that is a tough matchup against a hard-nosed defensive team like VCU that pressures the ball. LSU had no one who they could confidently but the ball in their hands to not turn it over. Now, they probably won't play another team with the same defensive style as VCU, but they WILL play several good defensive teams this year. They are going to have to figure out how to take care of the ball.

On that note, maybe playing with less tempo would be better for this particular team. In Wade's first two years LSU played "fast". But they also had Waters, who could play under control at that speed. I thought, at times, LSU got rushed unnecessarily and turned the ball over. They had much more success when they started to play under more control in half court sets simply because LSU's players were better one-on-one than VCU's guys. I know that Wade likes to play uptempo, but maybe that's not the best approach without a true PG. They can still play "fast", but perhaps not as fast.

All that being said, this group still has a bunch of gamers who aren't afraid of taking big shots. They went into probably the toughest environment they'll face this year vs an emotionally charged crowd and team, one that is one of the best defensive teams in the country and STILL shot nearly 52% from the field and 40+% from 3. That is elite scoring

If this group can just cut down on the turnovers even just 30% that would probably result in a net 6-10 point gain. Couple that with more consistent defensive play and they will be fine.

Javonte will get his. Days is LSU's best shooter and can be a tremendous offensive player....if he could stay on the floor! He has to lead the nation in fouls per minute. He's just too damn good offensively to be wasting away on the bench in foul trouble.

It was a 2 point road loss to a team that will be in the top 30-40 all year and the team got to face a very hostile environment right off the bat. Not a big deal at all. Those type games in November will help in the long run. I’ll take an early season game like that over a home game vs. a SWAC team any day.

Very good points are being made. Last year, LSU had big guys in middle. I didn't any big man last night. What happen to Taylor?

i thought they looked pretty bad. saw too many drives to the basket with no real route to basket and with poor body control. too many passes with feet off the ground... just too many turnovers. they will get better. they just need to get polished up and more careful with the ball. but, they def don't look like a top 10 or top 15 team...yet... at least Kentucky looks like s$*t. Geaux Tigers.
