Defense is soft, especially up the middle and with tackling and getting off of blocks. I recall a defensive player stating that the fall camp was far less physical than in recent years, presumably due to a lack of depth. It certainly showed this year. I think you must practice hard to play hard. Especially when the other team is taking it to you and being physical, you must have that mentality or you roll over like we did in 4th quarter against Bama, Georgia and Ole Miss.

A buddy told me that the defense has only made one stop in the 2nd half of all of our SEC games combined so far this season. That can't be true, can it?

If you just watch the Auburn and Ole Miss games, you know that isn't true. They just didn't produce enough scores to go with stops even against Georgia.

Football is a team game. If the defense gets a stop, the offense needs to make the opposing team pay with points scored. Far too often, we couldn't follow-up on the stops we did get even though there weren't enough of them.

Now you can see we now have the big picture Tiger fans and the tunnel vision tiger fans. With the tunnel vision tiger fans, Alabama is elite and everyone else is mediocre since they're the only team to do what they've done consistently.

I have blocked the Ole Miss loss out of my mind. LOL Against UGA, they scored on every possession of the 2nd half. We did too, except for the last one. Auburn was moving the ball at will in the 2nd half. They just got in too big of a hole to dig out of, and we were able to control the clock.

He even expanded on his delusion by claiming that LSU has only been "above average at times" over the last 15 years.

Not simply above average, but only above average "at times".

I mean my god. I can't even begin to comprehend the idiocy of this mindset.

this isn't a staff issue...common sense should tell you that.

Defense came out fricking Georgia in the second. Did we watch the same game?
OBJ muffed punt changed momentum.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't earl lane bring in Logan, Mingo, Montgomery, and brockers?

You are mistaken. Haley's been here since 09. All those players are post 09.

actually, all of those guys got here in 09. their recruiting (and probably commitment) was likely done before Brick got here. no knock on Brick or endorsement of Lane though.

never thought I'd see someone long for Earl Lane, lol.

On 5 2nd half possessions they had 194 yards and 4 scores. Hardly "fricking" them.

We are definitely spoiled fans when it comes to D.

But I don't think we'll be happy until we have a set of seriously high quality corner backs. When Chief has those, he feels good about blitzing and bringing the safeties up in run support. While we have the players capable of being those guys, I don't think the coaching staff will have them quite there in 2014. So I think the completely dominant D will be back in 2015, just in time for our regularly scheduled appearance in the NCG every 4 years.

No, I'm well-aware Earl Lane was horrible at coaching. I just thought he played a huge role in landing Sam Montgomery before he left.

I was just noting that State and the Chicago Bears weren't big fans of Haley, so I was wondering if our horrible line play can be attributed to Haley. my mistake

With that said-something's got to give. I can't believe we haven't gotten Gilmore into playing shape yet. And Anthony Johnson is well on his way to being one LSU's bigger busts.

Unlike seasons past, I'm not seeing cause for hope. I hope that I'm wrong.
