There's nothing inherently wrong with the offense we've been running

The new OC wouldn't necessarily have to change much if anything. What we do need is to be less predictable in our playcalling, and especially, develop a QB who can make the necessary throws.

Agree, just the few things SE did really helped. Like throwing to the tight ends. All of a sudden the defenses had something else to worry about.

Some of what we do can obviously stay, but we need more motion, misdirection and plays that throw the defense off.

Development of a QB is overrated when it comes to a big part of the LSU QB problem over the years.
I think you can know a lot about QB accuracy if you pay attention during recruitment.

Fact is not many teams are prepping get for our offense nowadays. If they execute it works. But I seriously think we need to upgrade the oline. If etling has time I think we would have beaten Bama. The int he threw was a td down the seam if he wouldn't have gotten crushed

You're gonna get downvoted like a motha for being so rational! This board hates admitting we have a talent deficit at any position and would rather blame every problem on coaching... But you're absolutely right. And I honestly wish we kept the exact same staff exactly where they are now. Besides the fullback dives, Esminger's playcalling has been masterful. People who know football can see this but of course no one wants to hear it because we need that big name hire!

That's the biggest key. DEVELOP a freaking QB!!!

How's this group of o linemen going to be able to suddenly block Bama next year?

I think we can be relatively the same, just more dynamic, and in that, pretty much scrap the FB position, and end up in more shotgun/spread sets. It's just a dying/dead position and we need to have a more NFL type offense to attract better QBs and develop them for the NFL better. More passing, less running, but not really lose the identity of being a run team. We just cant have these 70/30 type ratios of run vs. pass. It's just too predictable. We should be throwing the football about 30-35 times a game.
Definitely ready to see the FB position go for most part except very situational circumstances, dont think it's a huge advantage in the run game and it makes us so much less dynamic. It also gives too much of "an idea" to give the ball to a FB on a FB dive which hardly ever gains anything or throw to the FB out in the flat, which again, hardly ever gains anything. The ball needs to be playmaker's hands, not a guy who was a walk on and isn't particularly athletic.

Our offensive would drastically be improved with a good QB, but the system is still outdated
College football has changed and there are much more efficient and productive offensive systems available

The OTackle position is so depleted. That's recruiting not coaching.
ETA: I put that on Miles

We will still need to run the ball if that's what you mean. But our passing game needs to be revamped. Our route combinations need to be better. For instance we need to be able to flood a zone against zone defenses and then run more crossing routes and motion against man to man, and our qbs and wrs need to know the difference!

That's great as long as you're content to lose to every team you play that has a strong defense.
The offense is outdated and predictable.

Agree wholeheartedly. We desperately need to upgrade our off linemen recruiting. I see this as the biggest difference between Alabama and us/everyone else.
All this talk about LSU having the most players in the pros is somewhat misleading...how many of those pros are offensive linemen?

And Oline was Miles' specialty... ha!
