There really is no denying this was a solid hire for Les

Sure. There may be other coaches that were more preferable based on individual preferences, but, Aranda was certainly in the argument as #1 possible hire.

And, I said that how this hiring process goes might be somewhat informative regarding Miles in general. Well, clearly, Aranda wouldn't have jumped at the job if he thought there was a good possibility it would end up a 1 year hire. I know he's got a history of jumping around, but it just seems unlikely a guy would jump from Wisconsin if he thought the job was unstable.

So. All in all, a pleasant surprise.

That's way the labeling of Miles as a "lame duck" didn't make sense. After the botched coaching change, the school either had to a) fire Miles and start a coaching search or b) renew their commitment to him for at least a 2-3 year period.

Yeah I didn't think we would get a great dc with all the fire Mikes talk but it happened. Hopefully this hire turns out to be a coach in waiting type hire. I hope his defenses are so successful we make him a coach in waiting. He has over achieved every year given his talent pool.

It's also a positive referendum on Miles.

At least from Aranda's viewpoint.

Les wanted him last year and got cock blocked by Alleva. Joe's little coup failed and has had his nuts cut-off. Les is here at least till his contract is up in 2019 and the Miles Clause is no more.

No doubt.

This staff needed fresh new blood badly.

It is a good hire. Just don't understand why it always takes Les two swings to make DC hires. 2005 he was bringing Bill Clay until there was a fanbase revolt in BR and then he got Pelini. 2008 he promoted from within before going to get Chavis on 2009. Last year he settled for Steele before being bailed out by Auburn.

As to the referendum on Miles comment, I wonder what the pay disparity looks like on this one. Wisconsin is notorious for not paying their staff. Maybe 1 year at LSU is worth 2-3 at Wisconsin on the pay scale.

I like the hire as DC. I'm not ready to hope it's a head coach in waiting hire. Not sure LSU is the job for a "never been head coach" before. But, admittedly, I do not know Aranda's full resume'.

I don't think it says as much as you think it says.

The guy is getting a very substantial raise from a school with a much stronger commitment to football, and if the regime changes at LSU he is still very employable based upon his own record. I don't see the risk in taking this job you guys indicate.

And, if Les has a crap year next year the heat will be worse than this year, and it will have had time to develop, it won't be a three week disaster unfolding with no direction.

Is there any legitimate credence to this? God, what a scathing indictment of Alleva, if so. Just terrible.

Those with knowledge of Aranda's hire said he was LSU coach Les Miles' top pick a year ago. But Aranda wouldn't budge from Wisconsin because LSU athletic director Joe Alleva only wanted to offer a two-year deal with that silly clause saying the school would only owe its assistants six months pay if Miles was fired.

I read your post as a comment on Aranda's view on the stability of Miles' position.

I intended my post to be a comment on Aranda's view on the quality of Miles' coaching.
