the problem with play action is when we run the ball unless it is a direct had off, the rb gets the ball 5 to 6 yards behind the line on a pitch. This is suppose to give him better vision to see the hole and pick his lane. On direct handoffs the back is hauling arse towards the line because this usually happens on short yardage and we dont need more than a yard or two. On the play action the back just kind of sits back behind the line and waits for mett to get there to get the fake. This fulls no one on any defense. Its so predictable. All CBs Ss and LBs have to do is watch what the RB does at the snap and they know what the play call is pretaining to a run or play action.

One of the problems is we run that little toss play instead of the traditional qb reverses out and hands the ball off deep. I like the toss and we get lots of yards off it but It is not as easy to play action off as traditional handoff.

It doesn't even necessarily have to be play action.... but at least make SOME attempt to fool the defense.

For example, the Saints ran a play yesterday in which Moore flanked wide right, Sproles lined up in the backfield, and on the snap Sproles veered out to the right as though it would be a quick backfield screen to him, while making himself VERY conspicuous.... Brees pump faked to him drawing the lb's and cornerback, and then fired long up the sidelines to a wide open Moore for a big gain. It was a quick developing play for a big gain that really didn't require extraordinary pass protection.

And I thought to myself... THIS team knows how to play modern offense. And I thought back to the day before on how LSU never seems to attempt to outmaneuver the defense, but only to overpower them. It's as though Les thinks it's unmanly to play football in any other way. And then I cried.
