This so tough. The 2020 football team was more concerned with marching against the perceived evil white man and riding on coat tails. This flop makes little sense.

Goes to show you all the high school accolades and perfect game rankings mean nothing.

Doesn’t mean shite if he chokes in post season. Print the shirts.

Only one thing matters. Winning it alll. Otherwise it’s just a participation trophy.

Here is who we face going forward

@ Mizzou - 5-10
Auburn - 2-12
A&M - 11-4
@ Alabama - 6-9
Ole Miss - 5-10
You really think we take 1 from A&M? No way man.

Needs to hit on the transfer portal

The transfer portal is not the place to build a team, unless your good with having the occasional luck of finding 2-3 decent players. The problem with the transfer portal is simple. Why are these players wanting to leave the school that successfully recruited them in the first place? Simple, They weren't good enough to play at that school, or they have attitude issues.

But at this point in the season, 2011 and 2021 were only 1 game better in SEC Play.

So you think we get to 12-17 or better?

Who cares if you’re right or not? You came on to our board to try to talk about your team when we’re discussing our team for next year. We don’t care

Why would I think that? It's conceivable but unlikely. Do you people conclude whatever pops into your head? I'm just listing the details, I made no conclusions except where we are relative to previous close seasons and who we play going forward with their current record.

My concern is our roster next year and the development of younger talent. If there is any knock on Jay it’s the lack of development with younger talent.

He's developed plenty of talent over the years. Y'all are really letting one down season completely wreck ya.

I feel confident next year will be much better.

Millazo, Travinski, Bingham, and White are all gone

Outside of White that is no real loss... You lose players all the time. Also, how do you think White wound up here? Jay Johnson. There are great players every year to be had. Look at the bats he's brought in like Berry and White when needing to replace 3rd base. We just missed on those studs this offseason, but I believe Johnson finds another elite bat. I believe if we had gotten Montgomery this season to pair with White that LSU has at least 4 more SEC wins right now. I think Jay Johnson will hit on another elite bat in the portal. He has proven he can do this.

Hope this freshman class can lead and the portal gods bring talent or next years roster my be worse.

Yes, this Fresh class should be great. We are an inexperienced team. Let them get some experience. Larson is looking promising. Herring has looked great in only his 2nd season. There are some positives to be had.

I don't know how anyone didn't see this coming. Maybe not this bad, but I was highly concerned about the offense for this season. Lost way too many bats and vets. The pitching has been surprisingly bad, but I was also concerned with yet another pitching coach. I regret Wes Johnson left. However, the pitching has actually picked up. We can't score. I think some of the true Fresh and Soph are developing. Maybe not as quickly as others would like.

I really don't see next year as scary at all like the OP suggest. You also are going to get one of your really elite arms back. I don't believe it will get any worse and there will be reasons for optimism. Jay is relentless. He hates losing very much. He will do all he can to correct it.

It's weird to me the amount of catastrophic thinking going on around here. I'd understand it if it wasn't just one down season, but I'll wait to see how next season goes before going there.

The football references are ridiculous. Y'all really don't think LSU will bounce back in baseball under a coach who has consistently won and yes he has developed elite players. I can't believe someone suggested he doesn't develop players. Come the hell on people. How quickly people forget. It's an inexperienced team against a ridiculously front loaded schedule. Perfect storm for a down season. Sucks, but absolutely no reason to give up hope for next season.

LSU really needed to hit on an elite proven veteran bat to pair with White and just missed out. I think there's a massive difference in this season if they had gotten one of the tops bats in the portal. LSU will have more experience next season and I believe they hit on bringing in a proven bat or two.

Accurate.

The short answer is I don't know. I am not getting my hopes up nor dismissing the possibility of winning 9 or 10 more SEC games, more detailed thoughts are below.

12-17 isn't possible unless a game is canceled or called with the game tied (hence why 2007 was 12-17-1).

We play the 4 worst teams in the SEC aside from LSU in the last 5 series.

@ Mizzou - 5-10
Auburn - 2-A&M - 11-4
@ Alabama - 6-9
Ole Miss - 5-10

Can we get to 12 or 13 wins? Assuming we get swept by A&M, to do that we either need 9 or 10 wins (12 or 13 win season), which means we need to sweep one or two of those series.

Or we need to steal one from A&M then we only need to win the other 4 series to get to 12 or sweep 1 to get to 13.

If the stars line up and LSU can somehow win every series, that is 10 more wins.

LSU is 3 &12 after 5 SEC series, Both 2011 & 2021 were 7-14 with 3 series remaining (after 7 series) and went 13-17, winning 6 of their last 9 SEC games. 2011 was 4-14 after 6 SEC series winning 9 of their last 12.

I am not counting on any of that happening, but hoping for all of it.

All I know is that Tony Vitello has been knocking on the door of a national title and he is getting closer and closer. We lost most of our pitching staff, half the starting lineup and still producing. I think it’s time for other teams to realize that Vitello may actually be pretty good at building and sustaining rosters.

The problem with championships is you normally lose half the team. Then next year you wind up flouncing around. Only take the loss of 3/4 players to make a difference. Hard to repeat in any sport. Can be done, but unlikely.
