The Program or the Coach?

LSU has a storied college football tradition that goes way back before Les Miles, Nick Saban, and even Charlie Mac.

The school, program, and tradition attracts a certain amount of interest and breeds success regardless of who the coach is. Does anyone think that Jimbo Fisher or a Dabo Sweeney could not have done as well as Miles these last 11 years?

Saban and Miles have optimized the resources already at LSU with facilities, fan base, academics, & local high school talent which is a documented resource.

What's more important, the program or the coach?

I think we have shown that the coach is equally important to the program

But at the same time we aren't going to hold any coach back

Good point!

I keep hearing that LSU won't be able to find a "better" coach than Les Miles. I don't think we can find a better man, but better coach. Oh yeah, there are better, in fact some of them kicked our butts this year.

I hear depth is a problem, who's responsible to keep all positions deep with talent. That would be the coaches.
I don't hear depth being used as an excuse at other schools.

0 DTs and LBs last year
2 Dts and 2 Lbs recruiter last year, only 1 of each is still on the team.

Thats on the coaches. On Les for not keeping an eye on it, but also on the fat frick coaching west of us

I don't think anybody is saying that LSU can't get a better coach. I think people are more worried that there is a bigger possibility that they get a worse coach than Les than a better coach than Les which is true.
To answer your question The Program is more important than any one person but the wrong person (coach, A.D, bad apple in the locker room) can really hurt The Program for a limited time but they can always bounce back.

that because we played 10 games and a bowl if you got one during most of that stretch.

playing 13 games a season means any pretty good team can win 10 games now days.

not a good comparison sbc.

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant. Yes it's easier to win 10 now, but the # of wins/season is irrelevant if you're looking for a NC>

So 10-3 is good with you losing to Bama, Arky, and Ole Miss?

Not me!

i didn't say it was a goal, not sure where you get that from.

all i said was any pretty good team could win ten games now days. you went WAY off the rails on that one.

This board has lost it's fricking mind. What a stupid fricking question. Of course it's the program.

But you know, anyone can win here. Curley did it.

that was a time when we where behind everyone in facilities and fsu, miami and notre dame where taking a lot of talent from in state. hell, hallman even put together a few top ten classes anyway.

not the same program it is today, but unless we bomb the coaching hire, anyone we bring in should win 8 games a year here in today's 12 game regular season.
