The Onside Kick

The onside kick should have never been allowed. UNC Engaged an LSU Player before LSU was eligible to touch the ball. (Ten Yds)
No Team A player may block an opponent until Team A is eligible to touch a
free-kicked ball [S19].
See FR-86 Kicks
NCAA FOOTBALL RULEBOOK
I know people have mentioned it, but I don't think anyone linked the rule or quoted it.

Yep.
I said it, without the formalities.
So.. . why did it fly last night?
Dont the refs know the rules?
He was hit BEFORE the ball got there
AND he was hit within the 10 yard area.

Worst par tis that it was reviewed.
Posted on 9/5/10 at 3:41 pm to NimbleCat
correct- there were two officials staring at it and neither called it! makes one wonder

Cant review the fact that the player was touched, only the ball! UNC didnt touch the ball, so the play stood.

But the LSU player stepped up inside the 10 yds, and was hit by a UNC player (which is legal) before he touched the ball. As soon as the ball touches him, it's live.
Right?

the ref also didn't state the rule as to why the play should stand, he just said the play stands.

You might not be able to review the fact that a player was hit before ten yards...kinda like u cant review if it was a holding penalty or not.. I dunno for sure but that might be why...what they may have been reviewing was just whether or not an LSU player touched the ball....just speculating don't know for sure

i know it says that the players must stay behind the 10 yard kick. i was thinking it was a penalty but not so much now.

This is what I can never understand about the point of replay. Its one thing to make a mistake during a play when things are going lightening fast, but just like the Peterson int last year, how in hell do you STILL manage to frick it up after having the benefit of multiple looks at slow-mo multi-angle HD replay??

I can't believe they got it wrong after they reviewed it.

a. This protection terminates when the kick touches the ground, when any player of Team B muffs a scrimmage kick beyond the neutral zone, or when any player of Team B muffs a free kick in the field of play or in the end zone (Rule 6-5-1-a) (A.R. 6-4-1-IV).
Again the ball touched the ground
Again the ball touched the ground

The ball did not touch the ground 10 yards down the field from the point of the kick.
Have you always had reading comprehension difficulties?
Did you bother to read the Rule Book that was linked?

Was coming here to post this. As soon as the ball touches the ground, it's fair game to hit the opposing team to stop them from catching it.
Please submit to a remedial reading course. If you have read the rules and beleive this, your reading comprehension is horrible.
