The only thing it could rationally be, and none of probably could say for sure, is that he's really not performing well in practice. Seems unlikely to be true but I couldn't say for sure.

Any input?

This game is so much more than reps compared to the way it used to be played. It is also way more complex than most people know - linemen don't just block, backs don't just take the ball and run.

The LT has become the most important lineman when 20 years ago it was the RT who was the most critical. The center's role has become vital. It's hard enough to concentrate on making a good snap while also making a good block (particularly against a LB) but the modern center must also go to the line and bark out assignments to the linemen around him. The QB - set aside the skill level required. The ability to read a defense pre-snap, decisions to be made on option plays, vision of the field while "feeling the pressure".....all require split second decisions based on what the defense is showing you/doing and the play that is called. The best QB is a coach on the field. You can't say that about any other offensive position.

Bill O'brien discussing changing QB's

I listened to this today and thought it was an interesting perspective from someone who knows what they are talking about on when a young QB is ready to play and when to make the switch.

Comparing RB to the most cerebral position on the field.

So why then, as it pertains to Harris, many of you can't understand he needs snaps to be fully comfortable.

Because we all watched Jarrett Lee get ruined his freshmen year.

Maybe Harris would have developed nicely if he would have been the guy from game 1, we will have to find the answer to that next year . But what we have learned that while a good kid, A Jennings is not a QB

We shouldn't have to.....there should be a Jr/Sr to step in and keep the ship running.

the 2011 and 2012 QB classes where thin. We went after a bunch that we really wanted, but we couldn't get this.

in 2011 we went and got Mett, so that may have hurt us, but i wouldn't' trade him for anyone.

in 2012 we thought we had Gunner Keihl, but he bailed AFTER the last minute. Also that class is pretty abysmal too.
After Winston there is nothing.

We should've used the cupcake games to develop the passing game. Can't for the life of me wonder why we don't use the easy games to help get AJ and Harris comfortable in the passing game. Once we are up by three scores , we should pass at least 75% of the time.

The reason we didn't is because we had to get our running game going. Did you notice that it took half the season before the line got in synch in the run game?

Yeah, I stopped reading after this. Harris is not in the same class as fournette, and rb is perhaps the easiest position to transition to at any level, if you are simply running the ball. Fournette is still not the back brought in for pass protection.

And I would argue that we have inhibited a certain QBs development by playing him too early, and he isn't the only one ever. The word is confidence, and it matters.

I feel sorry that you have to use that simple brain of yours to make every day decisions.

Good for you. I'll mark you down for liking AJs production and thinking Harris would be ruined.

The point is Fournet and every other freshman usually starts slow and then catches up to the game. Same w qb.

LF was fine, Dup was fine, Adams, etc. And so would Harris with more reps.

Was Manning ruined in his first action and failures?

Saying a fresh would be ruined just because he's a qb is a stupid as you needing to come back and reread.

You don't know shite. Deal w it

This "ruin a QB" crap is just morons way of explaining why Lee sucked so damn bad. Lee was a gunslinger coming out of Texas and HAD TO throw the ball a lot to win games in his 8 starts in 2008. Lee was not ruined, he was just never coached up. Same for Jefferson.

At this point, I want to win and see Harris play. Now against TAMU, we really don't need to play Harris, as their bad run defense and pass heavy offense plays right into our strengths. At the same time, I still want to see what he can do. I want him to start in the bowl game as well. Four weeks of practice prep should be great for him.

Miles is so afraid of interceptions that he will accept piss poor QB play over maybe a more talented player who is more of a gun-slinging ad lib type.

quote:

Until Miles gets over his monsters and start trusting his QBs, quarterback development at LSU will be minimal. And the offense will always be handcuffed by Miles. Maybe he needs to make an appointment with a psych doctor to help him with his problems. Maybe free his mind to trust his QBs and become aggressive and play to win.

This a HUGE part of the problem. The INTs (especially the pick-6s) in 2008 seem to have scrambled Miles's brain when it comes to the passing game, maybe permanently.
