We have 2 linebackers committed.

Our D-coordinator is Aranda. whoever he puts out there will be ready. Once again he's an amazing coach, but we forget he thinks outside the box and puts the team in position succeed. We didn't run a true 3-4. our defense can easily change to a 4-3 with a stand up end
.
Mock Depth Chart

Buck End- Key, Anthony, Sci

DT- Loc, Alexander, Wilson, Valentine, Shelvin

DT- Godchaux, Lawrence, Herron, Gilmore, Farrell

DE- Washington, Logan, Clark, Thomas, Moffitt

MLB- White, Voorhies, Garnett, Rice

SLB- Divinity, Thornton,

WLB- Thompson, Alexander, McQueen

CB-Toliver, Smith, Vincent
CB-Jackson, Fulton, Greedy

FS: Stevens, Paris, Lewis
SS: Battle, Monroe, Delpit

Notes: I think Paris will make a move to safety, too much young talent to fight off ironically I think Stevens will start at FS . his ball skills are too good plus being an early enrolle I think he'll take the spot early in the season. Once again its just my prediction on how I think Aranda will make the personnel fit. Looking at this, our D line is deep as hell and will be big and strong enough to allow our backers to make plays. Our pass rush will be mean and our d will be fast and grimey.

Lots of inexperience scattered thru that lineup.
Good talent, though...

True. However, another year under Arandas system with growing familiarity will hopefully counter the inexperience.

I love Aranda as much as anyone, but you can't really say this. Our run defense was noticeably weaker when Beckwith went out and Alexander had to fill in. When people act like we can plug and play is when people get disappointed.

True, but Devin White gets major reps in the bowl game and has the physical tools to fill in nicely next season

Is Divinity ready to start in the SEC?
I ask those who know the position and watched him.
He was VERY highly touted on this board from the earliest recruiting days of that class, often in terms of him being critical to the success of the class. Some seemed to think he was a bigger prospect than Devin W.
Anybody have a feel for how Divinity is developing?

The only real concern I have about the LB group is how obvious the drop off was in the Florida game once Beckwith got hurt.

I know the younger guys getting a bowl game and a whole off season will help, but those are huge shoes to fill

Also Duke played out of his mind all year and was voted team MVP so he won't be easy to replace either

I'm no expert, but prolly still a year away. Devin looked better to me.
I expect Devin, Donnie, and Thompson to get most of the snaps next year.

Did Thornton redshirt? Dont remember much action from him, hes one to watch also.

Beckwith is a Grade A stud, so we definitely dropped off after he was hurt. Of course, Gilmore being on rollerskates most of the time didn't help our cause either.

From the limited reps he had this year, I saw good balance from him. He can drop pass in coverage well for a freshman, is more of a make the tackle than monster hit guy, but we need more of that IMO. In an ideal world he'd be a Sam LB in a 4-3 or even an OLB in a 3-4, but considering the void we have there, I think he's the best option opposite White.

Yeah I'm not saying that was the only problem in that game. I was just using it to point out that just because the backups will be good college players doesn't mean there won't be a noticeable drop off (maybe only a year) because of how much experience was at the position this season

Didn't Divinity start at the beginning of the year? I remember him getting pulled and not seeing him for a couple games. Then played spot duty for the rest of the year.

That's how i remember it anyway.

Hopfully, pulling him allowed him to see the game better.

I'm hoping he starts next year.

I Hadn't seen that but thats GREAT news if true, i really liked him as a recruit and would hate to see him come here and have nothing to show for it...Between White Divinity Alexander Rice(EE) and Voorhies we should have good enough depth for that position to not be a detriment to the defense...to me thats all you can ask for next year, no way we get the production we got this year again next year
