Moral of this story... don't ever commit something that... by law... is considered a sex crime (even if you think it's just being stupid and sophomoric)... don't ever video said event... don't ever post video of said event on the interwebz... ever.

I think the reason people are defending this guy is not because they approve of what he did but because thing they everyone who want the bama guy to hang is turning Football rivalry into a pussy sport.

The teams have nothing to do with what happened in this incident. That's the part you can't seem to grasp.
It has nothing, nothing to do with LSU/ALABAMA. Nothing.
A drunk idiot walked up on a passed out person and decided it would be "fun" to put his nuts on the person's face. This has nothing to do with football.

Whatever people may think of this story, the fact is that it's a PR nightmare for a city that's heavily dependent on tourist $$$. Also, you have the city's best know tourist event quickly approaching.
What I think will happen is that they'll keep the guy tucked away outside of general population. (If anything happens to him, that's more bad press that they want to avoid.) They'll hold him for a day or two, to "teach him a lesson" and hope that this makes the story start to go away. Then, he'll likely post bond and return home.

There are other sports boards from different schools whose fans have replied in disgust about what happened. They have no affiliation with LSU. They also seem to think it's the norm with Bama fans because of not only the asswipe who did it, but the multitude of Bama fans in the joint cheering him on.
