Percy Harvin says you're wrong.

As does Janoris Jenkins. This has to be about the most naive, pollyanna thought ever expressed on TD. What ball players DONT smoke would be the harder question to answer.

Mathieu, on the verge of a high draft pick and millions got it all yanked away. Yes, it was all his fault, but if you were in a draft eligible player's shoes and felt you could make it in the NFL, would you risk it?

Huh? Risk what? Risk someone strapping me to a chair and making me smoke?

The problem is the drug policy can be applied anyway a University sees fit.
After the Akiem Hicks deal, LSU compliance has basically said any issues whether it be grades, drugs, etc will be dealt with accordingly.

Hence, the season long suspensions of Tyler Edwards, DJ Welter, Evan Washington, and Tahj Jones. Any other school could've covered that up.

Hence, the drug suspensions of Brad Wing, TM and Nic Jacobs.

If you don't think synthetic are a problem on other campuses as well your really naieve. It's a college problem all over the country. LSU chooses to enforce it, other schools don't.

Yep, and therein lies the problem. The current players are in a regime that cannot apply the Saban Whitewash (also applies to grades).

This is just my two cents. But knowing some players and girlfriends personally, I think a lot of this has to do with just how closely knit the 2011 team was. Guys like Mathieu, Claiborne, Taylor, Simon, Randle, Ware etc. were all extremely close, and part of the reason why the team held together so well last year. I think that if anything, its less about Mathieu's troubles and more about the overall chemistry the last two LSU draft classes had.

And if the rumors about the Aleva-Miles rift are true, thanks alot W.C. Aleva.

what rumors are these??

and to be honest in my opinion there are no more players that play for there school anymore if so there are few and far between...players now are playing to get to the nfl and when ppl think they are good enough they go...there are very few ppl like Glenn Dorsey who come back for the team and not necessarily leave because he was projected high in the draft

Mathieu was the best player in the country in 2011, and the team chemistry was obvious. Without Mathieu this season the team's chemistry was noticeably different. Maybe the players declaring for the draft realize the chemistry from 2011 was a once in a lifetime thing, and they do not want to diminish the memory of 2011 by playing at LSU without that same chemistry again.

I think if Mathieu hadn't blown it with the arrest, and he was going to play next season at LSU, that most of those declaring for the draft would have stayed in college thinking Mathieu could help restore a 2011 type chemistry. He had that much influence on LSU football, and it is sad that his final impact will cost LSU so much experience and potential leadership for 2013.
