Brennan will be one of the best quarterbacks we've ever had. This year may be not what we expected or hoped for but by the end of the year the fans will be very excited about next year. Etling has been more than adequate qb but he even knows that MB is special and is the starter in the next few weeks. Canada will have to adjust his gameplan but he knows that it's worth it because of what MB brings to the table. This will only help recruiting. The key is to put the other pieces in place in the next 2 years while MB is still here.

If the future is bright, why is next year's recruiting class so pedestrian?

When you have special qb recruiting gets a lot easier. After MB gets settled in we will pick up some unexpected recruits this year.

To be honest I don't know that system compatible 3-stars and culture fits are necessarily bad. I hope that's what they are and it's not that we are turning kids off.

Yes, but having 19/20 commitments and still falling outside the top 10 at this juncture is far from promising. If O can't even recruit, he's useless.

Let's discuss in December and January. It's too early for me to call this class pedestrian. I'd like to see if any big names start popping up as we get closer to signing day before deciding on this class.

Yes...the recruits are picking their schools based on the future. They know Etling is a senior and want to know what the future at LSU holds. They will see that soon.

Lolz. You have no way of knowing this. Everyone is always in love with the backup QB here

I'm sorry but I'm not quite sure Brennan is the answer, as he seems to be quite slow of foot. I just don't know if LSU can win championships with slow of foot drop back passers. Everybody else has been doing it with dual threats who can do it with their arm as well as their feet.

You are correct and maybe I should have stated that differently but I will stand by what I know. It's a been a long time since we've been in this position with a qb who will be here for a minimum of 3 years.

I get your point but with an elite qb you can be more balanced. Teams haven't respected our passing game in a while. We need to sign a couple of elite running backs and the sky is the limit.

We want to compete for championships every year. That's what O should be judged on. He shouldn't be judged in 4 games after completely changing the offensive philosophy of the team. We've been mediocre for the last few years and the major flaw is that we can't get and develop a decent QB. In 2016 we had Etling, Harris, McMillan, and Scott as our quarterbacks. The consensus among our fans was that none of these could play at a sufficient level, and this showed in mediocre records. With these QBs no one expected us to be particularly competitive this year anyway (at least not until the Canada hire got everyone's hopes up).

Since O took over, we’ve recruited Miles Brennan and Lowell Narcisse. We've seen MB get some PT as a freshman and looks promising. He seems to be developing. We've also seen Etling play better this season. Though he's limited physically, he's making better decisions. So if nothing else, Canada seems to be doing a reasonably good job with the QBs. I'm not an O fan, but I think this alone warrants giving him a shot. Everything else we know can be fixed, but we need a QB. He seems to be doing that. In my book that automatically gives him a couple years, because if we can develop a QB, then we have a chance to climb to the top again. I think we need to be patient and let this play out. Give O the chance to fix the mess and see where we end up. Worst case scenario is that we have a couple bad years and O has the team well-stocked with players for the next coach.

Thanks.

Let's also remember that in O's first recruiting class he hauled in:

Not 1, but 2 quality QB prospects.
Austin Deculus, the first major OT prospect we've had in a while.
A major haul of DBs, including Delpit, Vincent, and Jacoby Stevens (if they can ever figure out what to do with him)
A nice pair of LBs (Queen and Taylor)
Tyler Shelvin, the big NT that we need (who can't play until next year)
And we've got a big time receiver (Giles), a big time DT (Fehoko), and a big time TE (Moss) that transferred in as well.

And that was with the uncertainty of transitioning to a new coach.

So like I said... Let's give O a chance to fix things. If nothing else, in a couple years the roster should be stacked.
