We're not the Wal Mart Wolverines like Bama has become just yet. The commercialization is inevitable and I attribute the majority of what you speak of, which is true by the way, to our recent success. The majority of us have had to live through very good, good and just average seasons. The current (especially if young) have only experienced the highest level of success and, therefore, expect it. There is a sense of entitlement among young fans and that is why I've really enjoyed this season. I think it will make us a better fan base.

It's awesome to be able to post on the same board as the "real LSU fans." I'm so lucky. Personally, I cannot wait to learn more from you about what being a real LSU fan means. Maybe one day I, too, can be a real fan.

Until then, I will pacify myself with the thought that there are people like you patrolling the stadium and gently stoking the everlasting flame of true fandom that may one day burn brighter. God bless you.

Wow! That post was so deffensive that it's obvious to see that you leave early if you even attend the game.

Did the op hit a nerve?

He's just a better fan than the rest of us because we aren't as appalled at the deterioration of the fan base, lol, as he is

Cap'n Obvious here...
It's no secret that in the last dozen years it has become fashionable for locals to be LSU "fans", or more accurately, to attend LSU games.
At the same time the commercialization of the college game has led to higher ticket prices, suites, parking fees etc, so that attendance can be a luxury for those who can afford it.
The program has made a lot of money as a result, making it one of the most profitable anywhere.
The dilletante fan is fully (and, perhaps extravagantly) paid for his admission and may feel no obligation to anyone as a result,
A Sat nite in TS is just another form of entertainment, like a movie, concert or symphony.
The superficial attachment of these fans is such that they unapologetically leave the stadium in the third quarter for dinner, to avoid traffic or just b/c they are bored.
Alot of folks who ARE more emotional attached, knowledgeable and loyal get left out.
I regret that, and the creeping demise of Death Valley that it fosters.

I agree that we've created our own worst enemy. The casual LSU Fan.

Meanwhile local radio personalities take to the airwaves to castigate fans who complain about having a home game taken away and sent to Dallas next year by complaining about the no-shows.

You hiked up the ticket prices, created a laissez fare-fanbase not made up of die-hards who got you through the tough times, and now punish them ALL because the laissez-faire types don't show up to the games.

Sort've a cyclical type of issue IMV.

of course many, if not most, of these people got their degree from LSU and became successful in their careers partly because of their LSU education. they are LSU even if they leave early sometimes. i think people have always left some games early there are just more now. believe me, the financial and time committment is much greater than it used to be so the crowd has been trending toward the more affluent. 8 games a year is a lot on anyone's schedule and staying for a townson or another small team or staying when the game is in hand only happens in the mega games like bama or florida.

I'd rather win and have bandwagon fans than not win and have only hardcore fans

I keep waiting for some old timer to join one of these "weak arse Tiger fans leaving early" threads and calmly explain that EVERY home game in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's had EVERY seat full for ALL FOUR quarters. Every game.

Until that happens, OP can GFY. Stupid thread is stupid.

Just tired of this shite. Jesus what a bunch of whiny tittie babies.

and yet again, it is awesome to post on the same board as the pseudo tiger fan that cant be seen at the second half of a game because it is social suicide or just "too damn cold." Sitting in front of the TV is the more suitable place for a fan like yourself

You people act as if someone that lives 2+ hours away should just head to the stadium and hope there are tickets to be had.

Yeah, you should. There's tickets. Every game. Always have been, always will. (My uncles used to come from Shreveport w/o tickets and always got in.)

Insider's Tip: Prices go way down >30min. before kickoff.

Yes to a certain extent. I run the economic development authority so have to dabble in it. I really try to avoid it but it's impossible!
